Do you ever just get mad because you’re spending your life paying rent and dreading the next impending catastrophe when you could have been a goddess living in an enchanted island unreachable by men and only seen every ten years? You live with ancient queens of myth and you're so much a part of each other it is like a second soul within your skin. You sing hymns, burn incenses, and make fragrant oils. You call birds to sing at your windows, fall asleep in patches of magical herbs, and sit by the hearth with a lioness, cheeks glowing with the flames' light. You are so far removed from the world's sorrows, so at peace and healthy. You live into 300 years, and in the space where legends and fairytales are gathering up words, your name is among them.

Yeah, so, anyways. Same.

Ashley Rose 😂 Literally how I feel after reading Percy Jackson and then realizing I actually know nothing about greek mythology because it’s way too expansive and complicated

Love Greek mythology!

sjsdkd I don’t know if what I know of Greek mythology actually happened or if I just read it in a pjo book

chai ♡ Brookeworm wrote: "Love Greek mythology!"

Yusra ✨ no joke, percy jackson helped me out w this book, he's a real one

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Same. I have a huge encyclopedia of different mythology for each culture that's pretty descriptive. When I read the encyclopedia I remember being like, man I remember Dionysus being such a jerk in Percy Jackson! 😂

Mayke ☕️ I have no experience of Percy Jackson yet, but I find this book quite easy to understand so far. Though I think I should search up some more about Greek mythology to fuel my imagination.

marilou We regret to inform you that you don’t qualify.

Sarah Hahahaha! This is literally how I feel about anything to do with Greek mythology now! I'm dying!

this post was actually just a thinly veiled cry for help desguised as humor but your “we” use is so ominous I’m not sure where it’s supposed to leave me other than terror?? is Zeus going to personally come down and call me out on my slander??

Elizabeth Okay, I think your joke is hilarious. And I love this book.

may ➹ can't believe you're such a millennial guess you've been spending too much time reading about furries :(

Sunny You don't need to know Greek Mythology to read Madeline Miller's books, you just have to accept the crazy magical elements and roll with it.

message 23: by JW (new)

JW 😂 your update cracked me up. I hope you enjoy the book.

Darcy (Daydreamingofbookdragons) It's a sad day when a joke needs to be explained. Unless it's a racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, rape, etc. kind of joke. Then always ask them to explain it and watch them struggle to excuse their shitty humour.

Laura Loved that update! 😂

message 28: by Riley (new)

Riley Ashby this is hilarious.

marilou Lol, I think it actually came from a fellow Greek. We basically learn mythology at school (and I didn’t mean to offend you or anything). Ps. I just saw this now.

None taken at all!!! Your comment made laugh actually, the mental image it conjured up cracked me up! But there were definitely some angry messages in my DMs and I was so confused lol also, man I wish we’d learned mythology in school!

Amanda Van Parys If there were a sarcasm font, then yours would also be in italics! It amazes me how dense people can be sometimes (me included lol!)

Haha, not necessarily :)

JO Hey Em, I got the joke and thought it was funny and I am old.

message 42: by xd_Bryanhiga (new) - added it

xd_Bryanhiga i read all percy jackson/rick riordan books. love greek mythology!!! fun to read.

message 43: by Jacqueline (new) - added it

Jacqueline Nothing to do with a Millennial sense of humour. These people who don’t get it have no sense of humour at all. I got it, laughed at it and I’m a boomer. Just. Myth and legend level legendary....I’m up to Magnus Chase 🤪 and I’ve watched most of the Hercules and Xena TV shows.

And we actually did Greek myths and legends at school....but that’s another story. And not funny at all.

Sandra Wiklund How people didn’t get this A+ joke is beyond me. Dw, your humor as redeeming quality stays 👏🏻

message 45: by Sara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sara I got it! And I can’t even pass myself off as a millennial these days. 😂

chai ♡ Renee wrote: "Thinly veiled cry for help, disguised as humor”: so basically my life story...

I know I'm the op but MOOD!!! also, thank u!! 😭🙌🏽

chai ♡ Ayla wrote: "Oh, how I hate when people don't get sarcasm. Now I'm adding "/s" everywhere, just to be safe."

90% of my conversational skills consist of sarcasm this is probably why I have like, three friends

Aubrey That was me signing up for greek class at college. It went... Well. Not well.

AnotherMia Greek Mythology thanks to PJ. Roman Mythology thanks to Heroes of Olympus. Egyptian Mythology thanks to Kane Chronicles and Norse thanks to Magnus Chase. All in all, I am a walking encyclopedia.

Also, that's the same outlook I had when I bought a podcast about Greek Myth. The lady was all wrong. I have no idea how she can call herself a historian but wow...so many facts wrong.

chai ♡ @Rini, @Marilena, I’m in tears!! yours is my favorite interaction in this thread lol
