This book was such a pleasant surprise. It had been waiting on my TBR for such a long time that I'd forgotten the synopsis and went in blind. So SO enjoyable!
*pacing /^^^^\_____/^^^\___ Lots and lots of talking and telling with some good action parts.
Overall: Plenty of potential. Strong setting, characters and world. However, the writing depends heavily on telling and dialogue (questions and answers) to tell the story. Enjoyable all the same....more

Thought provoking. Soul-breaking. Brutally honest.

This book deserves all the stars for such an original idea, I've personally never read anything like it. Absolutely loved the real life video game component and the beginning was so well set up with the mystery of the two missing teens.
The memories and the mystery itself were a little too mushy for me. I was just looking for action and the story turned out to be very emotionally driven.
I did just want to mention something about the writing itself. The author had this habit of using the parents' last names, when referring to them from the POV of their kids, instead of using "mom" or "dad".
For example:
"She couldn’t remember the last time Mr. Mendoza had ever been openly frustrated with Jay" ---- should read "her dad".
"Jay looked at Jackie, wondering what her reaction to Mr. Mendoza’s suggestion would be." ---- should read "their dad's".
"The only users she followed were Jay, Mr. Mendoza, and a few classmates from middle school." ---- should read "her dad".
It was just something that I found quite strange and it jarred me every time it happened, so I thought I would mention it.
Overall, a very enjoyable read.

What I struggled with: *the suspension of disbelief *protag *the2.5 stars
Not completely sure how to rate this one.
The good: *well written *very quick read
What I struggled with: *the suspension of disbelief *protag *the boyfriend *overall message and ending (view spoiler)[Her friends: You killed someone in self-defence, understandable. You also (somehow) dragged the body into the car and then dumped it in a swamp, then went home and cleaned up the murder scene - and then proceeded to live your life as normal like it never happened? No worries! Let's be best friends! (hide spoiler)]
I found our protag's actions and thoughts quite disturbing. And the ending was bizarre.
I'm actually still struggling with the whole thing. Our protag is rewarded for doing something despicable, just because she had a hard life.. It was weird and uncomfortable.

This is a quick read that starts off so well with a Cover ⭐⭐⭐ Characters ⭐⭐⭐ Setting ⭐⭐⭐ Suspense ⭐⭐⭐ Whodunit ⭐⭐⭐ POV ⭐⭐⭐ Story ⭐⭐⭐ Overall: Solid 3.5 Stars
This is a quick read that starts off so well with a great opening. A girl left for dead, who can't remember anything that happened and one girl still missing - it was great. I definitely preferred the first half. For the seriousness of the content matter, the overall tone is surprisingly very light. Literally everyone is made out to be a potential suspect at some point or another and there is a lot going on - a little too much for me personally.
I did however give it extra points for the amnesia angle, I thought that was a really good idea that was done well. Indi's flashbacks of being in the water were actually terrifying, so points for that. And also for the Brandy flashbacks - very Alison DiLaurentis-esque.
It definitely has that 'bingeworthy Netflix teen drama' feel to it. The kind you know is "trash" but you live for it anyway. The kind that starts out so good but eventually devolves into an over the top mess but you still can't stop watching because you've already devoted so much. There could be an entire episode dedicated to each subplot. It would also give time to flesh out each character.
(One thing I must mention though is the constant referencing of Indi's parents by their first names. Like they were her foster parents or long-distance cousins or something. Considering this is a third person narration from Indi's perspective, "Nathan this" and "Dawn that", it was weird and very jarring. I've never seen it done before and I honestly hated it.)

I like the concept but the story and characters wasn't really for me. Becka was the best of the bunch, but I cringed every time there was a letter from the Grandpa. Decent book for the right reader.

When I first started reading this book, I thought it was funny. I mean, Cover ⭐⭐⭐ Characters ⭐⭐⭐ Setting ⭐⭐⭐⭐ POV ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Romance ⭐⭐ Story ⭐⭐⭐ Overall: 3 Stars
When I first started reading this book, I thought it was funny. I mean, genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, which is rare for me. It's takes a lot to get a verbal laugh out of me, but this book did it - multiple times. I was so excited and felt for sure this was going to be my next 5 star novel (finally).
I really empathised and could relate in many ways to Natalie and I understood her struggles. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of this book and I had a fun time being in Natalie's head.
The party scene was my favourite. Hiding in the bathroom, failing at fitting in, oh the feels.
I think the story started to lose me when they went away for the weekend. I didn't really feel any chemistry with the romance and I'm so sorry to say it but, Natalie started to get annoying.
Her constant self pity and over analysing became tiresome and I started liking the book less and less and ended up on a solid 3 stars.
