The thing I find most fas"London by-law was issued forbidding any man to beat his wife after nine in the evening so as to not disturb his neighbours."
The thing I find most fascinating is how women remained subordinate even after two Queens.
Overall I thought this book was very interesting but I would have loved to learn more about women's health. Menstruation wasn't even mentioned and abortion was mentioned only fleetingly.
The idea of health and medicine being directly related to the elements fire/earth/air/water was so fascinating, I wish more information was included....more
I don't like when thrillers end tied up nicely with a pink ribbon.
But I did enjoy whodunnit, how they did it and their motive - meaning (view spoiler)[Cormac. Really great.
I loved the family history and abusive parents, the ploy to get subjects to the island, the experiment, how to induce trauma, how it was different for each subject with different results.
Hugh was also a great villain, loved his evilness. (hide spoiler)]
Favourite Scenes: The way the fog slowly lifted to reveal Olive's true cause of death / All treatment scenes / Anything with Ruby.
Favourite Characters: Ruby, Cormac and Hugh
More from Ruby would have been great. She was easily the strongest guest character.
Least Favourite Character: Kate. Kate is weak and needy and just annoying. I didn't root for her lol. Just like the whodunnit said, she's so easy to manipulate.
Given Kate is in 100% of this book, it's amazing I chose to rate it so highly. Goes to show how well done other elements of the book were.
Surely, if you've blacked out that many times, you don't remember how you got where you are, you'd start thinking.. maybe there's something wrong here. Hmm, what did I eat and drink last? Where was I? Who was I with? Et cetera.
She's a bit.. how do I say it.. slow.
Like any good hero vs villain movie; I rooted for the villain.

I tried to push through, but this one wasn't for me. I found Henry and his stories so very boring. I believe I heard 3 and 2/3 were just about his relations with women.
Thomas is at least somewhat interesting because he's just so weird. He has this odd obsession with this stranger sitting across from him on the train (Henry).
I skimmed to the end and it didn't seem to get any better. The one thing I did like was how the full moon was mentioned in every story....more

I'm sorry but this one didn't end up working for me. I really liked the overall idea and the setting but..
Very slow to start. We start with introductions of all the friends and some scenes of them together, supposedly to try and get to know them before the action starts but it didn't work for me.
I liked the idea of the group of friends but I missed the banter, the comradery.. they just felt very generic. I didn't care about any of them. Aside from the couples, they are basically strangers and that's what it felt like.
I enjoyed the suspense of not knowing what was going on and why there were 2 types of monsters. The best scene was the little girl in the street.. definitely creepy!
The highlight was finding out that (view spoiler)[Gale created them, but his motive and the way things panned out was just so weird. The vaccine didn't come on time to protect his friends, but he still invited his friends anyway? (hide spoiler)]
So, a few good elements, but ultimately not for me....more
Criminal Minds is easily the best fictional series which showcases the FBI's use of behavioural analysis to apprehend criminals and solve crimes.
The Criminal Minds is easily the best fictional series which showcases the FBI's use of behavioural analysis to apprehend criminals and solve crimes.
The path to understanding the criminal mind and why it is violent crimes occur has always attracted the common man.
The XYY chromosome and "supermale" study, although subsequently found to be wrong, is definitely fascinating. I love the thermograph image of the chromosomes.
The information for each segment is short and easy to digest.
•"Six Steps To Arrest" followed by a brief overview of the system used by a select few countries. •The case studies and profiles of criminals throughout history. •David Canter's behavioural characteristics of a rapist "map" •Geographic profiling •Serial killer categories •Handwriting experts •Erik Erikson's 8 life stages of interpersonal crises

Love, love that each herb has listed their ruling planet, moon phase, element, zodiac, gender, deity, lore.. LOVE.
I appreciate that their is a coloured illustration of each herb, especially considering there are a whopping 150. Not all guides give you visuals but I think they're so important to help identify each herb. I also love that each herb gets a full page.
I struggled very much to get through it, I had to resort to skimming to get to the end.
The meet and greet doesn't start until 40%. TWhat an odd story.

The meet and greet doesn't start until 40%. That is a verrrrry long time to get to the meat of the story. Instead, it's filled with things like flashbacks that seemed kinda redundant and didn't add anything. I almost DNF'd then.
To be very fair, the house inspection and the first part of the meet and greet was genuinely funny.
But it lost me again at the kidnapping stage. So, that's a good 90% of the book where I struggled.
I know what the book was going for, but I didn't feel the kids and Dotty were strong enough characters to pull it off....more

The only thing I noticed was that the light blue text on black was hard for me to see. But hopefully it's different when viewing a printed copy.
