If you have absolutely no expectations or if you're too hyped up or anything in-between, don't worry, this book will probably turn out way more interesting than anything you mightve pictured in your head.
I am a big fan of books about books and libraries and bookshops and secret shelves and stories and words and everything of the sort (being a nerdy bookworm makes you like that, yes, beware!). And this story built on the love for books, stories and writers binds the past and the present. And it's so much more complex than just the plot.
Each of the characters comes with a story. It looks like each of these characters and their backstories are arteries attached to the big beating heart - the plot. The plot pumps the arteries with fresh blood and they bring back raw material for the heart to keep pumping.
I was surprised by the lengths this story goes to. It's full of force, but also of emotion. Of love and loss. Of tragedy. Of little smiles that appear at the corner of one character's mouth when they think no one sees them. And most importantly, it is full of magic. And this magic is done in such a way that the life is intertwining with it....more

I did not expect to 1) read this book immediately after I discovered it, 2) read it so fast and 3) enjoy it so much.

I mean I didn't think of cowboy romances. They weren't something I'd ever considered. But I liked the cover of this (you know, it's not the typical horrendous cover with a half-naked cowboyman on the cover and eventually with a straw between his teeth and his bust all muscly and oiled-up for the cover pic). Yes, I picked yet another book up thanks to the cover. Sue me about it.
Don't get me wrong, it was extremely cheesy and silly, especially at the beginning and in a way, the majority of the characters pissed me off, especially Gus, Emmy's oldest brother, who I found infuriatingly overprotective and a veritable alphahole. Emmy (the female MC) was also annoying me when being way too passive when she needed to put her foot down and defend her own honour.
But even so, this book was so much fun. And frankly, it was quite ...more
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed this one because it was action-packed and sometimes I need my books to keep me engaged constantly and for the most part, Iron Flame managed to do so. While reading it, you get so caught up in everything, that you don't even realise when chapters fly by. But looking back, I feel like all that action was a bit messy. And overall it gave the whole story a rushed, seemingly polished look.
I did enjoy the many other fantasy elements inserted by the author in this sequel of the initial story, it had a more defined outcome in the fantasy world. The spice was still spicing, no doubt of that, but sometimes the lack of communication and the stubbornness of the main characters made me not have it, you know?
I loved the idea of Violet and Xaden together when they were acting accordingly with each other, but separately? Not so much. The character of Violet felt somehow pushed to look a certain way in a certain (good) light and Xaden's character development was simply non-existent (in my humble opinion). I did however enjoy many other side characters that, to me, shined more and gave the story a nice, salvatory touch, characters such as Liam, Rhiannon, Imogen, Ridoc and Garrick. And the absolute best character created in this dragon universe - Tairn, the Highness of Snarkiness.
Overall, the book seemed a bit unrevised and somehow flabby (if that makes any sense?), mostly because of the sloppiness of certain characters, but also because many of the phrases seemed to have words repeating too often and it became redundant.
For the sloppiness, I'll award it the rating above, but keep in mind that overall, I enjoyed the rush of adrenaline the book gave me. Do I recommend it?
Did I enjoy this? Yes. Was it better than the other series? In my opinion yes. Did I think it was a little bit more put-together story? Yes Was it s4/5 ⭐

The Love Wager was definitely the better of the two books in the Mr. Wrong Number duology. Even though I wasn't the biggest fan of this either, I enjoyed the story of Hallie and Jack more, they seemed more put together as characters and their relationship, even though silly at times, was way more contoured than the previous story of Jack's sister, Olivia and his best friend, Colin. This book proved to me that, indeed, Lynn Painter's books have great potential to get better so I'll keep reading her novels!...more
