this is a follow up to THE GUNCLE so i recommend that you listen/read that first or there will be spoilers. it had been 3 years since i read that and was hazy on the details, but the author did a great job reminding you of the details and getting you up to speed. a re-read isn’t necessary :)
my fave parts—the setting, the comedy and the vibes. travelling Europe in the summer? a beautiful Italian resort on Lake Como? YUP.
the author did such a great job narrating and i was truly laughing every 5 minutes. it was SO fun. the content is light but touches on good life lessons and still deals with grief and moving on from events in Book 1.
the ending was also adorable and sets up nicely for a third book. in case you’re listening, Rowley ...more
this was a good, light-hearted read but a bit overhyped for me.

second chance romance is my favorite trope, so i'm nitpicky when it comes to the details. unfortunately, when the connection gap is really long (10+ years), the chemistry and believability factor doesn't work for me as well. especially when the couple fell in love at age 16 and rekindled at 30... i have doubts lol!
all in all though, i did enjoy the setting (beach town in NY) and will always check out second chance tropes. this would probably land somewhere in the middle of the pack--LOVE AND OTHER WORDS will always take the top spot for me!...more
this book was just okay for me! i’m surprised it was a Reese’s pick because i feel like it doesn’t lead to too much discussion?!

it gave me FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT (series) meets CRAWDADS vibes. enter: a murder mystery with quirky characters and comedic banter in a swamp.
the beginning was great, it started off nice and with action. looooved Lana, she was the best. the family dynamics were entertaining and adorable at times. the murder mystery became a bit of a stretch…
the last 70ish pages is where i was checked out—it was tough to finish and just felt like the resolution drug out a bit. there also wasn’t a “plot twist” for me so i was craving that given its a suspense.
BUT, i’m picky with “thrillers.” go in expecting a family drama with a side of mystery and use it for a quick page turner book and it’ll do the trick! ...more
okay, i think this was my fave of the series?!?! anyone else?!?!
the vibes were great, love a good friends to lovers trope, the side plots were more iokay, i think this was my fave of the series?!?! anyone else?!?!
the vibes were great, love a good friends to lovers trope, the side plots were more interesting, it wasn’t forcing a “bad boy” trope like the first two, Cassie and Tate seemed mature… i was vibing!! Tate was definitely my fave boy MC of the 3 books (i needed a break from the twins lol). Cassie was prob my second fave girl MC behind Mac. but of course, we got cameos of everyone in this one!!
the only thing i wasn’t sure about was the 3rd act breakup in this one… it seemed VERY random. this was also the longest of the 3rd and they were so happy and everything was going so good that the 3rd act conflict almost felt… too late? glad it was resolved quickly though ...more

my fave part was probably the setting. it was giving majorrrr Outer Banks vibes. i also really liked the themes of doing what makes you happy and doing your best to find your own path vs doing what people/family expect of you. the female MC wasn’t my fave but i respected her in that aspect for sure. she was a trust fund baby but definitely independent and ~self made~ lol.
i never really fell for the bad boy, small town male MC though… it was fine enough for me to continue the series. there are 3 books total and one is brand new!
what i really didn’t vibe with was…
***POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD***
the cheating trope. i don’t like it and never will. even if it’s just a kiss, even if the two characters have banging chemistry, etc… i just won’t ever like it. i also don’t love when a relationship starts based off of a lie/dare but i get that it provides some angst. it just makes the entire plot very predictable ...more

it was maybe a bit overhyped for me bc everyone LOVED it and for me it was good but maybe forgettable, but i still enjoyed it. the author’s writing style was very easy to binge and i liked it. it almost gave me Katherine Center vibes bc it was a romance but about SO much more than a romance plot (family, grief, friendships, growing up, finding yourself, etc.).
it read a bit YA but tackled some tough topics really well. it was a nice story about overcoming grief and finding happiness again, but the assassin game was a bit much ...more

this is for the bookish girlies. books about books >>> chefs kiss. this follows a MC who is a bookstore owner and just absolutely going through it in life. then, he gets quite a surprise in the bookshop one day and his life changes forever.
it’s also super quick — under 300 pages and i read it easily in 2 sittings. when i finished, i actually wanted it to be longer! the ending came on so fast.
there were a few surprising “twists” at the end that wrapped everything together in a nice little bow and i appreciated that. i really liked how everything became intertwined (plot and character wise)—that was prob my fave part besides the character arc we saw in A.J.
