GABRIELLE ZEVIN is a New York Times best-selling novelist whose books have been translated into forty languages.

Her tenth novel, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow was published by Knopf in July of 2022 and was an instant New York Times Best Seller, a Sunday Times Best Seller, a USA Today Best Seller, a #1 National Indie Best Seller, and a selection of the Tonight Show’s Fallon Book Club. Maureen Corrigan of NPR’s Fresh Air called it, “a big beautifully written novel…that succeeds in being both serious art and immersive entertainment.” Following a twenty-five-bidder auction, the feature film rights to Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow were acquired by Temple Hill and Paramount Studios.

Hey yourself! Here are some numbers:

Women are 50.8% of the population, and they make up a whopping 58.3% of the US civilian labor force.

Yet, in 2018, women occupied around 20% of the seats in the US House, and 23% of the seats in the US Senate. Just under half of all states have never elected a female governor, including New York, the state where I was born, and California, the state where I currently live. 96.5% of all supreme court judges have been men. And yes, because I know you were thinking about it -- women still earn 80.5 cents for every dollar a man earns.

Can it really be a representational democracy if the government doesn't reflect the people who live there? I think about this a lot, don't you?

There are several possible answers to this question, and I almost hate to narrow it down to one. Perhaps it's silly, but I like readers to be able to imagine whichever quote they'd like on Jacob Gardner's wrist. However, if pressed, I think it most likely comes from the dedication of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: "some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again."—gz(less)

“Someday, we’ll run into each other again, I know it.
Maybe I’ll be older and smarter and just plain better. If that happens,
that’s when I’ll deserve you. But now, at this moment, you can’t hook
