Secrets, lies, murder, and loyalty are the names of the game in Vengeance Is Mine. I found this book to be gripping, hard to put down, full of twists,Secrets, lies, murder, and loyalty are the names of the game in Vengeance Is Mine. I found this book to be gripping, hard to put down, full of twists, tension, and reveals. Michael Wood has delivered a shocking and thrilling page turner!
Dawn Shepherd was raised by a single mother and never knew who her father was until one day in a state of distress, her mother tells her. Dawn is shocked to learn her father is Dominic Griffiths, a convicted killer, who is going to be released soon. Twenty years ago, thirteen-year-old Stephanie White was abducted and murdered by Dominic, who Dawn's mother described as quiet, kind but controlling.
Dawn sets out on a mission to learn more about her father, his past, his family, her parent’s relationship, and Stephanie's murder. Dominic has always claimed his innocence in killing the young teen, while also saying he does not remember what happened.
I had a hard time putting this book down. I thought Michael Wood did a great job in showing how wanting to learn more about her father caused tension between Dawn and her mother, Rita. I was drawn into the investigation, the supporting characters, the twists, the revelations and drama. I thought I had things figured out and was left with my jaw hanging open at one reveal.
Well written, well thought out, gripping, and shocking!

This audiobook can be listened to in one day. It is not long but it is heavy on suspense, violence, danger, evil, and dread. This book has the trapped feeling that I enjoy in books. It also taps into the fear of home invasion. What happens when someone breaks in and all you-know-what breaks loose? Once the action starts, it never lets up, and readers are taken on a dark, twist filled, ride of horror.
I found this book to be enjoyable. It is different from the author's other books. I believe that is because he adapted this story for an audiobook. Teddy Grennan wrote and directed the movie version. If you enjoyed the movie (which I have not seen), or tales of home invasion, horror, you may love this book. I did find the audiobook to be well done and I enjoyed the narration.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave....
WOWZA! You, Me, Her is a gripping, thrilling, shocking, and dramatic page turner! I did not want to put this book down! Sue Watson delivers time and time again! I was enticed by the synopsis of this book and once I began reading, I found myself completely glued to the pages, addicted to the drama, riveted by the mystery, and shocked by the secrets!!!! Sue Watson knocked it out of the ballpark with You, Me, Her!
Woohoo!!!!
Rachel has recently inherited a lot of money and has trusted her husband, Tom, to get their new home ready. When she and their son finally move in, she is apprehensive but ready for their new fresh start in their new to them home. When Chloe, a young estate agent, shows up and lets herself into their home, Tom tells Rachel not to trust her. But Rachel needs a friend....
This addictive psychological thriller kept me on my toes wanting more. This book was so much fun! I loved the drama, the tension, the secrets, the lies, the not knowing who I could trust or who was telling the truth! There were times when I thought I had this book figured out, but Sue Watson was always one step ahead of me, throwing in twist after twist.
I was lucky to have both the book and the audiobook of You, Me, Her, which made for a completely immersive and thrilling reading experience. I thought the narrator, Tamsin Kennard, did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life.
Gripping, shocking, thrilling, and dramatic!

When her mother stops in for a visit, Fiona (Fi) is given a missing family heirloom that her mother stole to get back. What's more is that the timepiece is rumored to have magical abilities.
When Fi wakes up on a tropical island, beside a man she does not recognize, she is freaks out. Where is she? Why is he calling her by another name? Once she calms, she realizes that she has been transported into her dreams where she is a married woman with two children.
This is a book that screams "believe in the power of your dreams". By day, Fi is a businesswoman running a watch company. She spends time with those in her life while at night, she is transported to the island and the life she has there.
When I started this book, I had my doubts. I love Sarah Ready's books and devoured the first two books in this series, and found that I was not instantly in love with this book as I had been with Ghosted and Switched. My advice is to stick with this book because there is a nice payoff that comes toward the end. I went from enjoying it, to not being able to put it down.
With the other books in this series, this book touches on finding love in unconventional ways. There is that magical/paranormal touch that comes into play. Suspending disbelief is necessary. With romance it is all about the journey and Fi goes on quite the journey in this book.
I enjoyed how Fated touches on family, friendship, romance, time, motherhood, and vulnerability. The characters are likeable, quirky, endearing and well-drawn. I also enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the tropical island. I felt as if I were swept away and right there with them as a silent observer.
As with Sarah Ready's other books, this book was beautifully written, well thought out, had fun parts, parts that pull on the heartstrings, and great banter.
I had the pleasure of having both the book and audiobook versions of Fated. Fans of this series, will be happy to see Daniel (Fi's brother) from Ghosted.
I look forward to the next book in the series.

They were high school sweethearts until Molly ghosted to Seth. They find themselves seated together at their 15th high school reunion and after a few drinks...
I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed it, I felt it dragged, I was sucked in and fully invested, then I thought it would never end, etc. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narrations but hoped that things would feel as if they were happening faster.
What I enjoyed was Seth's positivity, his faith in love, his vulnerability, and his outlook on life. I also enjoyed the banter between Molly and Seth. It took me some time to decide how I felt about Molly. She is a pessimist who self-sabotages a lot in this book. I do appreciate that she acknowledges her anxiety and the reason for the self-sabotage. This was a nice touch in the book. I also enjoyed getting both main character's POVs.
I just struggled with how long the book felt. I wish the pacing was more even.
Many are enjoying this book more than I did, please read their reviews as well.

Rachel is a schoolteacher who is navigating life after the sudden death of her husband. She, her children, and her grandmother are living in a small town which appears to be picture perfect. Unfortunately, living amongst them is a “collector" who takes children. Rachel has heard the whispers of the locals, she has heeded the danger, but when a photograph is taken from their home and a tarot card is left in its place, she knows her children are in danger. Rachel calls Henk, her husband's best friend, who agrees to come and stay with the family to keep them safe.
Readers are given the POV of the collector which makes for interesting reading. Knowing the thoughts, motivations, and goal of the Collector enhanced the story for me. Who is the collector? What has this person never been caught????? These were the questions swirling through my mind as I read.
I enjoyed the tension, the mounting sense of danger, the suspense, and the paranormal aspects of the book. The paranormal parts come in the form of "gifts" the women in the family have. This is the first book in the 'Logan Sisters' series which has me assuming that each sister will have her own book with the other sisters having minor roles as was the case in this book.
I found this to be a solid start for the series. I look forward to reading the next book when it comes out.

Karin Slaughter has delivered another addictive, shocking, thrilling, and riveting addition to the Will Trent series. She kills it time and time againKarin Slaughter has delivered another addictive, shocking, thrilling, and riveting addition to the Will Trent series. She kills it time and time again with this wonderful and gripping series! Will and Sara are beginning their honeymoon at McAlpine Lodge, a mountain getaway. It’s a beautiful and relaxing setting until a body is found. Naturally they jump into gear trying to secure the scene, keep everyone separate, and try to determine whodunit. They will need to sift through all the secrets and lies to find their footing on this murder mystery.
The victim is Mercy, the daughter of the owners who is known in town as a troubled person stemming from things in her past. She is the fodder for all their gossip. Everyone at the lodge is a suspect. Everyone appears to have something to hide, especially Mercy’s toxic family.
As the investigation goes into high gear, the tension mounts as does the danger level at the camp. When another person dies, the stakes become even higher. People are lying left and right but who amongst them is a killer? I put on my super sleuthing hat and tried my best to do my own detective work, but never guessed whodunit! I love when that happens.
Faith and Amanda arrive on the scene and throw themselves into the investigation as well. I love their personalities, and their interactions with each other, including Will and Sara. They really are a family. Speaking of relationships, I continue to adore Will and Sara together. They continue to compliment each other and make each other stronger.
Karin Slaughter did a fantastic job of making everyone a suspect in this book. I found this book to be well thought out. Slaughter knows how to depict unlikeable and despicable characters. This book has many things going on and touches on many issues such as addiction, domestic violence, toxic relationships, and control to name just a few.

It's dubbed as "wicked fun" and "darkly comedic" and I did appreciate the sarcasm and wit in the book. Saffy is a serial killer looking for love. Dating can be hard enough, but try dating when you are not only trying to determine if this man is 'the one' or is he the next kill? But Saffy will not be deterred, she has her sights on a certain man......
Jonathan is a true crime podcaster who enjoys solving cold cases and bringing people to justice. When he becomes a suspect in a crime that he did not commit, he must clear his own name and Saffy is determined to help!
Readers are given both Saffy and Jonathan's POV. This book is a little bit of everything - romance, mystery, and thrills. It is not your usual book about serial killers. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a fabulous job bringing the book to life.
While I found this book to be enjoyable, it was just missing that little bit of something that would have elevated my rating. I wanted more of Saffy for starters. I also wanted a little more mystery as well. What I did enjoy is learning about Saffy's background and what was the catalyst of her killing bad men. I also enjoyed her struggles with dating and what happens when a man catches her attention.
If you are thinking of reading this book, I do recommend the audiobook as I thought the narrator did a fantastic job!

I Will RuA Teacher's act of heroism puts him in the crosshairs of a diabolical blackmailer who is determined to get what he wants no matter the cost! I Will Ruin You grabbed my attention from the very first page with the harrowing scene and had me wondering how thing were going to work out as the plot morphed into something that I did not see coming.
Richard Boyle is a high school English teacher who stepped in and stopped a former student who had a bomb strapped to his chest from causing a major catastrophe at the school. Little does Richard know that the attention he receives from his heroic actions that day will have a very negative effect on his life. A vengeful blackmailer is determined to settle a score and Richard finds himself in the middle of accusations, lies, secrets, drugs, and danger!
This book started strongly and then slowed down a bit. There were times where I had no clue where things were going and how everything was going to be tied together. There is a lot going on within the pages of this book. There were also times where I wasn't even sure that I liked this book mainly because there were a few things thrown in that didn't seem to help the plot. I stayed with it, and I was impressed with how Linwood Barclay brought everything together in the end! There were a few 'aha' moments when everything became clear.
This book is told through the POV's of many characters which was a nice touch. I enjoyed getting to know their motivations and thoughts. As Richard tried to clear his name and get to the truth, I could feel his desperation and frustration. I also enjoyed the tension, sense of unease and the mounting danger which are woven nicely into the book.
As I mentioned, Linwood Barclay pulled everything nicely together in the end. I saw one reveal coming but overall was impressed by how everything came together. While I didn't enjoy this one as much as I have his other books, I still found this book to be enjoyable, well thought out, and wonderfully written.
*I listened to the audiobook and thought the narration was wonderful. Very nicely done.

I was completely engrossed in A Talent for Murder and enjoyed reading about Henry Kimball and Lily Kintner once again! I found this book to be gripping, shocking, and hard to put down! Peter Swanson nails it every time. If you have not read a book by him, what are you waiting for????? This book has a little bit of everything that I enjoy in books - great writing, tension, mystery, suspense, great dialogue, complex characters, and mounting danger.
When Martha Ratliff met Alan, she thought she met a traveling businessman, who would make her happy. But after seeing blood on one of his shirts, she begins to investigate. When she notices a coincidence between his travels and murders, she enlists her old college friend, Lily Kintner, for advice. Woohoo! I knew things were about to get fabulous when Lily came on the scene!!!!
This is the third book in the series, and it was fantastic! I loved the cat and mouse. Lily is such a great and complex character. I love reading about her and have my fingers crossed that there will be more books in the future. If you have not read The Kind Worth Killing: A Novel and The Kind Worth Saving: A Novel, I highly recommend reading them as well. This book would work as a stand-alone, but the first two books are fantastic and once you start reading, you will not want to stop.
Gripping, shocking, tense, and a riveting page turner!

The best part - it is free in return for some house sitting. How lucky are they???? But the manor home comes with a sad history. Thirty years ago, a home invasion left many of the family members living there dead.
Then things begin to happen, things are moved to new locations, there is the strange feeling of being familiar with the home....
For me this was a slow burn until around the 50% mark. I felt for Cass as James became concerned about her mental health. I enjoyed how the book went back and forth in time, giving readers glimpses into the past. Things get very interesting near the end of the book as everything comes together. I was fully invested at the end and enjoyed having all the facts.
I listened to the audiobook and found it to be very done. I enjoyed the narration.
I just wished there were a few less characters and the plot was faster moving. I did enjoy the tension and the beginning of the book was fantastic! That got my attention and sucked me in! The ending was great as well. The middle part had me turning to other books.

This book has some charming Love in Tandem is a clean light romance with likeable characters who go on a 500 mile tandem bicycle ride to raise money. This book has some charming moments, some fun moments and some moments that put a smile on my face.
Charlotte was devastated when she learned the music program at the school where she teaches music was ending. She is determined to raise money to save it. She never thought that ex-fiancé, Ben's brother, Zach would be the one to help her out on the ride. Zach is back in town to be the best man at his brother's wedding to Zach's ex-girlfriend. UGH! Talk about messy. He never thought he would run into his brother's ex-finance, Charlotte, let alone agree to go on a 500-mile tandem bicycle ride to raise money. He could use some money as well.
Romance is all about the journey for me and Charlotte and Zach go on quit the journey in this book. Both believe they know each other one, but along the way, they learn that there is more to each other than they originally thought. I enjoyed their banter, the funny situations they found themselves in, and the way they realized their assumptions about the other was wrong.
I enjoyed the writing, the humor, the characters, and the fun in this book. I had no idea that this book is considered Christian fiction/Christian Romance when I requested it. I can say that this book is not preachy or overly religious. There is one small section where there are mentions of finding faith and losing faith. Otherwise, I would classify this as a light, entertaining, fun romance book.
Romance is a journey and who doesn't love a journey when it involves a bike!
I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration.

When the body of a young girl is pulled from the river, Freya is determined to get to the bottom of things. Three Drowned Girls had me doing my own detective work trying to figure out whodunit.
Freya has a dark history. Her parents are serial killers, and she has vowed to do her best to bring other criminals to justice. She knew returning to her hometown would be hard, but she never imagined what would be waiting for her when she did. Freya is determined, hardworking, tough, and unrelenting. I loved her relationship with Esther, the woman who took her during her teenage years. Enough is provided about Freya's serial killer parents to whet my appetite and pique my interest. I look forward to learning more about her past and her parents in future books.
This is an interesting and dark police procedural with a likeable character - Freya, Esther, Brad, and Candy. I enjoyed them and look forward to getting to know more about each of them in future books.
Although this book did not move as fast as I would have liked, I found it to be enjoyable, with a nice number of twists and turns. Reading about the murder of children is not easy but the author handled it with care, and nothing is told in detail or graphic.
I had both the book and audiobook versions of this book. I enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook. I thought she did a great job bringing the characters to life.
Dark, twisted, captivating and well written.

I had both the book and the audiobook versions of this book which made for a wonderful reading experience. I do think this book works best in the written form. I did enjoy the narrator, but the writing is so beautiful that I enjoyed reading more than listening to it. IThis book touches on the ugliness in people, the feral drive to survive, and lawlessness of a broken society. I also found this book to be emotional, hopeful, sad, thought provoking and beautifully written. It explores love, connection, hope, loss, desperation, resiliency, courage, and kindness.

Perhaps that wasn't fair to the book or myself, but I felt a little let down. The premise is intriguing, Javier Castillo, a reclusive horror film director hires Harry Adams, a woman to clean his home. The woman is a horror film fan and looks forward to working there. It is one thing to love horror films but to work amongst the props that terrified filmgoers is another. Especially when Javier warns her not to enter one of the upstairs bedrooms....
Christina Henry does capture the gothic and atmospheric vibe nicely. Having said that, this book, for me, was not creepy or spooky at all. It did not deliver the chills or thrills that I was expecting. I put this in my liked not loved category.
Extinction is equal parts captivating and scary. I had a hard time putting this gripping and thought-provoking book down.

Erebus Resort deep in the Colorado Rockies is a place where visitors can see woolly mammoths, Irish Elk, and giant ground sloths who have been brought back by science. This book will give strong Jurassic Park vibes.
While on their honeymoon, Olivia and Mark Gunnerson are taken from their tent and murdered. Colorado Bureau of Investigation Agent Frances Cash and local sheriff James Colcord pair up to hunt down their killer(s). Little do they know; they will come up against something that they could never imagine. It's ancient, intelligent, and deadly. They are both intelligent and dedicated to their jobs, but will that be enough??? I enjoyed the unfolding of the mystery during their investigation.
This book is a combination of several genres: mystery, suspense, police procedural, Science fiction and adventure. Extinction is well written, well thought out, interesting, and also a little scary. This book had me thinking of the phrase “Just Because You Can, Doesn’t Mean You Should.” I found this to be a very thought-provoking book. What happens when scientists try to do something that should never be tried without thinking of the consequences. What happens when you come up against something you can't begin to understand? Science can be fantastic, but it can also be scary.

This book was fantastic! I could not put it down! This is how you do it! I loved the creepy, horrific, sinister, humorous, something-isn't-quite-right vibes in this book. I found it to be a utterly addictive, gripping, and spine-tingling page turner! I loved the atmosphere, the tension, the mounting sense of danger, and chilling location. I was intrigued by the strange behavior of the townspeople, their stares, and their warnings. The mounting dread and increasing sense of doom had the hairs standing up on the back of my neck while reading.
The Pace family always goes on a family vacation. It is one that Anna usually dreads. She doesn't quite fit in with the rest of her family, including her twin brother Benny. Her sister doesn't seem to want her around, her father reminds her who paid for the vacation while her mother frequently questions her life choices. Ah, so much fun being uncomfortable around one's family.
But things are about to go from being uncomfortable to much, much worse. Something isn't quite right at their remote Gothic villa in Monteperso, and it has nothing to do with their toxic family interactions. There are bumps in the night, a locked room that is not to be entered, and the unsettling feeling of being watched. Then Anna is told about the Villa's dark and brutal history....
The feeling of dread oozed from the pages, and I lapped it up! Plus, the humor, wit and sarcasm in the book worked so well and was placed perfectly throughout the book. This book comes in at under 300 pages but packs a wallop of a punch! There is something about haunted houses/locations that gets me every single time. We want to feel safe in our homes, where we choose to stay while on vacation/holiday, and there is something so unsettling when that feeling of safety is gone. Anna doesn't feel safe around her judgmental family. I felt for her and the toll the interactions with them took on her mentally. Then to see her not be safe due to where they were staying elevated my concern for her.
So clever, so well done, well written, and well thought out!
*Some takeaways 1. Always listen to the locals, always! 2. It doesn’t matter how much you paid for something; safety is priceless. Leave. 3. People treat you how you let them treat you. 4. Be nice to your family. 5. If you do not feel safe where you are staying – leave! 6. Don’t go into rooms you are told not to enter.
