It's just so-so for me. My biggest problem is that, I haven't read the first book in this series, and apparently this is not really a stand-alone.
Why
It's just so-so for me. My biggest problem is that, I haven't read the first book in this series, and apparently this is not really a stand-alone.
Why I said not really stand alone? Cause, The cases between the first book and the second book are unrelated; however, in order to fully understand our main character's background (Finley), you have to read the first book. Since I haven't read it, I am a bit puzzled and cannot grasp fully to the story itself..
So, dear other reader, if you want to read this book, please read it in order. I received this second book as an ARC, so that's why I haven't read the first one. I didn't even know at the first place this was a series.
For now, I will stick with 3 stars, but in the future, I will read the entire book of the series (1-3), and who knows, I will change my rating.
HERE'S MY MOOD WHEN I READ THIS BOOK; #{1%-10%} >Ow, I was so engrossed in this book. I love the way the author starts this story. (Here is the thing that you need to know about me: I don't like to read crime/mystery/thriller fiction when I need to read at least more than 50% of the book just to get to the synopsis.)
#{11%-30%} >I started to lose my enthusiasm, and slowly I got bored. (Started to think, "Shall I just DNF it?")

Sloane (FMC) She went from an intelligent lady to a dumbass bitch to a psycho woman.
Ethan (MMC) He.... uhmm, he's just a detective who's cheated on his wife.
Brody I didn't get much from him; like author didn't tell you that much about him. In my opinion, he should have gotten more scenes. Since he was our main bad guy here He strikes me as stupid and a coward.
MY PROBLEMS: •I can't connect to each of character. So that's why it feels FLAT.
•I need more descriptions of Sloane, Ethan, and Brody. Like their appearance. For example: - What makes a 42-year-old woman still attractive to a man worth of $1.44 billionaire? When he got a much younger model as a wife. Cause hell yeah, i don't get it, why Sloane.
•Some scenes feel out of place; the most hilarious one for me is the "Backseat" scene. This guy (Brody) just popped up anywhere and everywhere. Like this:
It has succeeded in bringing back memories that I've been witnessing.
Fun Fact: Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law are real stories in real life; they boIt has succeeded in bringing back memories that I've been witnessing.
Fun Fact: Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law are real stories in real life; they both always had stereotypes, you know. And let me tell you that's true. Not everyone experiences this rare opportunity, but a person I know did.
POV from this book is alternate from Ethan, Charlotte and Anna. And also divided into three parts of the story.
Part One The first part of the book is more about building the tension from each character, and I learned through this first part that no one is an angel in here, like every character has their own dark side. A lot of bickering and upsetting things keep happening in here; even the smallest things will make these characters upset.
His mother (Anna) is indeed the worst. She is a paranoid, manipulative, accusing, and an absoulute nightmare in your life.
His wife (Charlotte) is none better (I guess this guy didn't have any luck); at first, I thought her character would be like an innocent and good one that have been wronged by his mother, but NO. She's just an upgraded version of his mother. So at some point they're the same but different (you get that?).
Up until the very last page i was like "WHAT?" The only thing that satisfied me was the last page, where... you know what Sam It's R.I.D.I.C.U.L.O.U.S
Up until the very last page i was like "WHAT?" The only thing that satisfied me was the last page, where... you know what Sam did to Anson Bishop (I don't want to give any spoilers).
But I disspointed a lot through this whole book, at some point this book is too long, it could be cut off just about 450- 500 pages (i read kindle ver), I found it boring, and THE DIARY is a big problem for me, cuz it's just not interesting at all.
Unlike the diary in the first book which is The Fourth Monkey hold my anticipation, but this one I found myself wanting to skip it so badly.
"Like DUH....when this shit end?."
In the middle of the story I got confused, like I don't know which one is real or fake. Some of the twists that happened just so so (马马虎虎), because you already get it somehow.
But you know I'm getting mad at some point because, I spent a lot of my time to swim through Anson's story but what I get....? -NONE-
Ah one more... Too many victims and side characters, I lost my count, let alone remember their names, so when I read a name I forgot it, like, "Who is he/she?" Or "Who the hell is this person?" like too many.
MY THOUGHT I thought I would be able to give it 5 stars like the other two books, but no. Big NO.
First i want to say it's been a while since my last 5 Stars. But this book ended up in cliffhangerFirst i want to say it's been a while since my last 5 Stars. But this book ended up in cliffhanger...more
