blues are all the rage in this house currently.... :-)

A stacked image of the bolts striking South Perth behind the Crawley boat shed. Technically its not brilliant, but I wanted to get most of my shots from a bonkers 10 minutes in the same frame. www.cloudtogroundimages.com

The sky was just starting to transition to blue and tide was moving out when I took this one.

Super Takumar 1:3.5/24

We came across numerous Blue Birds today, in Contra Loma. It was a beautiful day at Contra Loma once the overcast skies cleared and the sun shone through. The brilliant blue-and-rust Western Bluebirds sit on low perches and swoop lightly to the ground to catch insects. Deep blue, rusty, and white, males are considerably brighter than the gray-brown, blue-tinged females.

Extreme closeup of a blue ice cube. This was done adding a x10 close-up lens on the front of my standard 50mm macro lens - this gives the almost 'lensbaby' blur towards the outer edge.

Here's another coloured ice cube shot: blue ice

My GPS log and the time stamp on this photo indicate that the picture was taken just past Sockdolager Rapids. The end of Sockdolager Rapids is in view in the center of photo. The highest point on the upper right of the picture is Hollenback Point.

In 1869 during the first Powell expedition, crewmembers could not find a way to portage or line their boats around this cataract, so they had to run it head on. Powell describes running the rapids through this area of the canyon: "We hear a great roar ahead, and approach it very cautiously."

During the second expedition in 1872, Powell’s crew decided to name the rapid “Sockdolager”, a slang term of the day meaning heavy or knockdown blow.
