Critically acclaimed series Malpractice left viewers on edge last year, following the story of a troubled doctor embroiled in a dangerous and life-threatening conspiracy.

Viewers will recall Dr Lucinda Edwards, portrayed by actress Niamh Algar, being investigated after a patient overdosed and died during the first season.

However, as the investigation intensifies, Lucinda's confident professional facade begins to crumble significantly. Despite receiving some support from her colleague Dr Linda, her problems seem to only escalate.

For the new series, which began filming today, July 8, actress Helen Behan (The Virtues, Elizabeth is Missing) and Jordan Kouame will return to their roles as Dr Norma Callahan and Dr George Adjei. As part of the Medical Investigation Unit (MIU), they are brought in to investigate a new doctor accused of malpractice.

Helen and Jordan will be joined by actors Tom Hughes, Selin Hizli, Zoe Telford and many more, including Ace Bhatti who starred in BBC'S Line of Duty and the award-winning film, Bohemian Rhapsody.

The chilling plot will centre around Dr James Ford, a Psychiatric Registrar in a North Yorkshire hospital, played by actor Tom, reports the Mirror.

Dr James' life is a whirlwind of personal chaos and perceived arrogance by his peers. Yet, he remains dedicated to those in his care who need him most.

Caught in a dilemma during a hectic shift, Dr James must navigate the delicate situation of a routine postnatal visit and the urgent need to section a severely psychotic patient. The stakes are high, and any misstep could spell disaster for his career.

She further revealed her anticipation for the upcoming season: "This time, I'm excited to be delving into the world of Psychiatry, my medical specialty, with an incredible cast led by Tom Hughes, and fantastic crew led by Anthony Philipson. I can't wait to get started."
