ITV Good Morning Britain's huge format shake-up sparks backlash as presenter 'abandoned'

During Monday's installment of the ITV breakfast show, fans slammed Good Morning Britain after they interviewed Kwasi Kwarteng and Harriet Harman.

Fans who tuned into Good Morning Britain on Monday complained within minutes after hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls presented the show outside and not inside a studio, leaving Laura Tobin all alone to present the weather.

The presenting duo hosted the daytime programme within an outdoor space and not within their familiar ITV studio. The pair were standing close to Westminster and had the House of Parliament in full view in the background.

Fans were not impressed with the set up and took to X, formally known as Twitter, to complain. One person moaned: "#gmb they are going to get very bored with standing outside in Westminster for hours. What's the point of doing that?"

A second person also commented: "@GMB I was just telling my mate I’d turn straight for Suzanna and then you cut to the weather and you’ve left poor Laura on her own in a massive studio, I’m switching to BBC Breakfast…"

A third said: "@GMB can't believe you've all gone out and left @Lauratobin1 home alone in the studio lol." A fourth typed: "Why live outside the House of Commons? Absolutely no need for that."

During the show, the pair interviewed former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng and Harriet Harman over the new Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer.

Fans of the show were not happy with the interview, blasting the show for inviting Kwasi Kwarteng onto the programme following his election defeat.

One person said online: "Why is Kwasi Kwarteng suddenly on news programmes @GMB #gmb have they all forgotten that budget."

A second person also wrote: "Why. Are. They. Asking. Massive. Failure. Kwasi. Kwarteng. For. His. Advice." A third typed: "Who wants kwasi opinion…my god #GMB."

Kwasi stood down as Spelthorne MP prior to the General Election and recently admitted to blaming himself and Liz Truss following the Tory election defeat.

He previously spoke on Good Morning Britain last Friday and referenced the mini-Budget disaster, saying: " We went too far too fast. It was too much for the markets to swallow."

Meanwhile, Ms Harman has spent four decades in Parliament and held various roles, including social security secretary, solicitor general, justice minister and minister for women and equality.

The Labour veteran stood down before the General Election. She was first elected in the 1982 Peckham by-election.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6.30am on ITV and ITVX.
