Prince William has "stepped into the Prince Philip role" and is now "calling the shots" within the Royal Family, a source has claimed.

The Prince of Wales is said to have taken the lead role when it comes to family discipline, as it collapsed after the death of the late Duke of Edinburgh.

According to a source, Philip used to "rule" the Firm with a "rod of iron", however now it is William who controls most of the family's issues as the royals deal with several crises, including one of the biggest ones, Prince Harry's feud.

A source told the Daily Beast: "There is a sense that William has stepped into the Prince Philip role. Philip ruled the family with a rod of iron and you saw when he died that discipline collapsed.

"Now William is calling the shots when it comes to family discipline." The source added that the biggest indicator is the Firm's handling of the Duke of Sussex feud.

They said that although it's evident King Charles wants to see more of his younger son, the fact that the Firm barely have any contact with Montecito, with William and Harry currently 'not on speaking terms', "tells you everything you need to know about who is really in charge".

It comes as the future King was praised for stepping up as the Royal Family go through a tough year for its senior working members, with both the King and the Princess of Wales being diagnosed with cancer and the Princess Royal being admitted to hospital last month.

However, the royals will have a period to recharge themselves soon, as their summer holidays approach. The Royal Family traditionally take their summer holidays in August, with most of them travelling up north to Balmoral, Scotland.

Royal expert Jennie Bond said this year's summer holidays will be an important opportunity for the Firm to "take stock".

She told OK!: "It's been one heck of a year for the Royal Family so far and nothing would please the King more than to have his close family gathered together in the peace of Balmoral for a time to take stock together, mark the passing of an incredibly difficult few months and look to the future."
