A royal expert has explained that King Charles will not rise to the idea of a competition with Meghan Markle over their new products as it is "beneath" him.

Earlier this year Meghan launched her new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard (ARO), which is set to stock a range of items from food and kitchenware to pet food and alcoholic beverages.

King Charles's beloved Highgrove home, in Gloucestershire, has also sold organic produce such as jam and honey for a number of years.

With Meghan's ARO launching strawberry jam as its first product, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has refuted any claims that there could be a clash between the two.

She told OK! magazine: "I absolutely refuse to buy into suggestions of a petty rivalry between Meghan’s products and the release of new products from the Highgrove estate.

"Highgrove has been coming up with new products for years now. The marketing might have become more sophisticated over time, but there has always been publicity about the organic produce from the farm and gardens.

"I really don’t think that Charles or his marketing people would sink so low as to try to deliberately compete with or scupper Meghan and her team.

"Why would Charles want to make things worse than they already are? So I think it’s a load of old nonsense and would be beneath him."

This comes as a source told the US version of the publication that the Duchess of Sussex is desperate to get the royal seal of approval on her new venture.

They said: "Meghan is looking for support wherever she can get it. Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice are at the top of her list, but she is shooting even higher and would love to get King Charles to give his stamp of approval."

Eugenie and Beatrice are two members of the Royal Family who have remained on relatively good terms with the Sussexes since their move to California in 2020.

There had been speculation that Meghan was planning to write a tell-all book about her life, with her new business likely a welcome development for the Royal Family, according to Emma Clifton, a writer at Australian Women's Weekly.

Celebrity publicist Waylon Tate commented on the branding of ARO to the publication: "What I've seen so far, although she's been pretty clandestine about everything surrounding this new brand, is that it's Meghan and it's Meghan alone. You can even see it on Instagram. It's not Meghan and Harry - it's by Meghan.

"This is the emancipation of Meghan. It's her saying, 'I'm a smart, savvy businesswoman. And here's an introduction to my family on my terms'."
