National Lottery winning odds mapped: UK areas where you're most likely to win
When population figures are taken into account, players in certain parts of the country are most likely to win.
New data has revealed the areas of the UK most and least likely to win the National Lottery, with one region clearly coming out on top.
The North has been lucky in the lottery, which made more than 7,200 millionaires between its first draw in 1994 and March 2023, with Northerners far more likely to have won £1 million or more than Southerners.
The South East of England has had the most lottery winners, with 975 people becoming millionaires and nearly 6,000 claiming a prize of £50,000 or more.
But when population figures are taken into account, players in the North of England and Wales are far more likely to win a life-changing amount.
In the North East, the National Lottery has created 320 new millionaires - the equivalent of 121 lottery millionaires for every one million people, or around one in 10,000.
The rate of lottery millionaires is high all across the North, with 110 millionaires per one million people living in the North West, and 116 in Yorkshire and the Humber.
But as successful as Northerners have been in the lottery, players in Wales are even more likely to be lucky. The country has had 389 winners of £1 million or more, which adds up to 125 lottery millionaires for every one million people.
The large population size in the South East means that although the region has had the most individual winners, that only works out at 91 lottery millionaires per one million of the population, far lower than in Wales and the North.

There are also 91 lottery millionaires for every million people in the South West and 93 per million in London.
But the Midlands has had the least luck when it comes to a huge win on the lottery. The region has 86 lottery millionaires for every million of the population, the lowest of any region or nation of the UK.
The National Lottery says it makes an average of seven new millionaires each week, and has handed out more than £94 billion in prize money. National Lottery players have also helped to raise £49 billion to fund "life-changing projects" across the UK.
