Train services across Scotland face major disruption today amid an ongoing staff pay row between ScotRail and the drivers’ trade union ASLEF.

A total of 243 services have been cancelled on Sunday, July 7, with the train operator making a number of timetable alterations, with approximately 75 per cent of services expected to run.

Following a warning from drivers’ trade union ASLEF on June 24, that it may ballot for industrial action over pay, there has been an ongoing impact with fewer train drivers than normal being available for overtime or rest day working.

On Friday, July 5, ASLEF informed ScotRail that it would recommend a ballot of its members to its Executive Committee over pay.

As a result of disruption across Scotland, the following services will only run once an hour: Helensburgh Central – Edinburgh; Glasgow Central - Lanark; Balloch – Motherwell; and Milngavie – Larkhall.

Services are also not calling at; Airbles, Barnhill, Alexandra Parade and Duke Street stations.
