  • All eight English officials have been selected for the Euro 2024 quarter-finals
  • The news comes despite the lengthy VAR check they oversaw in the tournament

Half of the Euros quarter-finals will be overseen by English officials.

Anthony Taylor, assistants Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, along with VAR Stuart Attwell have been selected to take charge of Spain versus hosts Germany. Michael Oliver will lead a team involving assistants Stuart Burt, Dan Cook and assistant VAR David Coote for France v Portugal.

There have now been 37 appointments of English officials throughout the tournament.

Refs body PGMOL may well see the development as a positive, despite earlier criticism on social media when a group of Premier League officials oversaw the longest check of the tournament.

VAR denied the Netherlands what would have been a winning goal against France in the group stages in a match officiated by Taylor, with Attwell in the booth.

Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney, was among those to hit out, telling the BBC that the referee should have been sent to review the incident on the pitch-side monitor.

'I think it's a goal. There's no way that should be disallowed. If you go to the monitor, it's his own opinion. Onside,' said Rooney.
