Erik ten Hag's assistant Mitchell van der Gaag has reportedly left Manchester United amid a shakeup in coaching staff at Old Trafford.

Van der Gaag has been Ten Hag's right-hand man during his two years in charge of the Red Devils, after making the switch with the manager from Dutch side Ajax in 2022. 

However, new co-owners INEOS have been ringing in the changes since taking over football operations at Old Trafford. 

Legendary striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and former Go Ahead Eagles Boss Rene Hake are both set to join as Ten Hag's new assistants and were pictured arriving at Carrington for day one of pre-season on Monday. 

Van der Gaag was expected to depart the club as part of the reshuffle, and according to the Mirror, his time at Old Trafford came to an end before pre-season.

It comes amid a coaching reshuffle with Rene Hake (left) and Ruud van Nistelrooy set to be confirmed as new additions to Ten Hag's coaching staff

Van der Gaag spent two years as part of Ten Hag's coaching staff at Manchester United, having also worked with him in Ajax 

It's not known whether it was Ten Hag's decision to part ways with Van der Gaag or a decision enforced upon him by INEOS after their end-of-season review.

It comes after fellow coach Benni McCarthy also left Old Trafford, after two years as part of Ten Hag's backroom staff at Old Trafford.

The appointments of Van Nistelrooy, Hake and Ten Rouwelaar have yet to be confirmed by the club, as the three Dutchmen wait for their visas to be granted.

However, all three were present as United's first non-international players reported back for pre-season - including Marcus Rashford, who had been left out of England's Euro 2024 squad. 

Former United striker Van Nistelerooy, 48, turned down the Burnley job to return to his old club, having previously led PSV Eindhoven to second place in the Eredivisie and victory in the Dutch Cup.

Hake, 52, has been persuaded to give up his job as Go Ahead Eagles manager despite leading the Deventer-based club into Europe for only the third time in their history.

Ten Hag's position had been at risk but INEOS decided to keep the manager after their victory over Manchester City to win the FA Cup. 

Behind the scenes, Omar Berrada has arrived as the new chief executive, Dan Ashworth as sporting director and Jason Wilcox as technical director.
