Legal Guidance Service

Your use of our Legal Guidance Service (the “Services”) is governed by the following Terms and Conditions:
• You must be aged 18 or over to use the Services.
• There is no obligation on users of the Services to leave a gift to Cancer Research UK.
• You must consent to your solicitor providing Cancer Research UK with: your full name, address, date of birth; which Services you have accessed; and whether or not you have included a gift to Cancer Research UK in your Will. Your solicitor may also share whether your Will is simple or complex and the features that define this e.g. inclusion of a trust or multiple beneficiaries. The latter will be used purely for product development purposes and no personal information will be shared regarding this.
• Users of the Services are limited to one 60-minute free Legal Guidance Service initial consultation under this scheme. Further consultations or advice may be charged for.
• Will writing is a mandatory condition of using the Services.
• Cancer Research UK reserves the right to withdraw the Services.
• We understand that you may want your gift to go towards research into a certain type of cancer or to provide support in your local area. We will endeavour to meet this wish as far as is reasonably possible.

The Legal Guidance Service includes services relating to Powers of attorney (ordinary and lasting, financial and health), Letters of wishes, Legal Lifetime Planning (e.g. inheritance tax and capital gains tax planning) and Living Wills.

Cancer Research UK pays for supporters to write a standard single or mirror Will (“Standard Will Fee”), as this helps to drive income from gifts in Wills by removing the need for supporters to pay for their Will. Cancer Research UK also pays a further fee for your use of other services in the Legal Guidance Service, which is capped and may include any Will-related fees in excess of the Standard Will Fee (the “Maximum Contribution”).

If the costs of the Services exceed the Maximum Contribution and/or you instruct your solicitor to provide services beyond the scope of the Legal Guidance Service, you are responsible for the additional amounts. When giving instructions to your solicitor you should check that the cost of the Services is covered by CRUK or whether you will be responsible for additional sums.

Please note your solicitor alone, not Cancer Research UK, has control of and is responsible for providing the Services.

The solicitors who participate in the Free Will Service and Legal Guidance Service are registered and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) (in England and Wales), the Law Society of Scotland and the Law Society of Northern Ireland (as appropriate)*. They are independent of CRUK and participating in the Services does not imply a recommendation by CRUK.

Cancer Research UK is a registered charity in England and Wales (1089464), Scotland (SC041666), and the Isle of Man (1103) and Jersey (247). Registered as a company limited by guarantee in England and Wales (4325234) and the Isle of Man (5713F). Registered address: 2 Redman Place, London, E20 1JQ.
