I bought all new Kasa Smart Switches to replace my existing Treatlife switches that started to become unresponsive. The Kasa Switches are easier to install and require fewer wire nuts than the prior switches, making them easier to fit into the boxes. The Kasa App and integration with Alexa was smooth, with a minor exception. I received version 3.26 and 3.6 of the single pole switches, which operated differently during the integration. The 3.26 took multiple attempts to integrate with Alexa. All eventually connected, but the 3.26 version took more time and attempts.

The three-way switches require that you purchase a pair, which takes a bit more installation time and costs more. I would have liked a 3-way switch that worked with existing non-smart switches.

The design of the switches is clean, and they look great.

I've installed more than 50 of these smart switches across several properties.

Price-wise, these are on par with Lutron "dumb" switches that you'd buy at a big box store, and you get much more functionality.

Installation is straightforward for anyone familiar with basic electrical work. It's a bit like a GFCI outlet, though- they are fairly bulky, so there's not going to be a lot of spare room in the box. It can be tricky to get two of these into a duplex box. (Waygo's, or very, very neat wiring are your friend)

We use these with Google Home, and they work very well. The only complaint I have about the integration is setting them up twice- once in the Kasa app, and then again in Google Home. It would be great if the setup process were all in one place and just flowed through. For example, when i have "Living Room" in both apps, Google Home should realize that I've set up a switch in Kasa and automatically assign it to "Living Room" in Google. I realize that is on Google- it's just something that should be addressed.

Once it is integrated, though, you can mimic a much more expensive home automation system. I've seen homes with $30k-$50K just on home automation. These switches do a darn good job of mirroring that, and they don't require a server to run them. We've set up "scenes" like "Hey Google, it's time for movies"- and then Google can address the various switches and dim the lights, close the blinds, etc. It's quite a luxurious feeling.

What I particularly like about these switches is that they stay connected to our wifi pretty well. I've experimented with several other brands, and some of them will drop off the wifi on an annoyingly frequent basis. I want to install, then not think about it again. In my primary residence, we have >30 switched that have been running for about a year. Only one has ever needed to be reconnected to wifi, and that has only happened once so far. (btw, reconnecting is relatively easy, as there are reset buttons carefully hidden on the front of the device- you don't have to take it out of the wall).

So all in, electronics are well designed, installation is about what you'd expect, and integration with Google Home is pretty good. Kasa has done a very nice job with these switches.

I am one of the millions of Insteon customers that woke up one Friday in April 2022 to find that my hub was a brick and Alexa could no longer talk to my smart home. After 3 days of shock and trying to figure out if there was a workaround to saving my 30 x $50 for each device, I gave up and started looking for an alternative.

I am a man of few words and will not bore you with my search but I settled on Kasa based on customer remarks, there is no hub, and the fact that they are owned by TP-Link and will probably not go away soon. I checked out how-to videos and decided it might be right for me. I purchased 3 dimmer switches and 4 bulbs at a fraction of what Insteon was charging me.

They are physically of high quality, easy to install, and easy to add to your system once you get the rhythm of the installation. The phone app finds the switch quickly and it gets automatically added to Alexa after you install and enable the skill. This bears repeating: the device shows up in Alexa immediately; no having to “discover” devices and scenes.

After an initial test run, I have purchased 12 more devices including the 3-way dimmer. Super cool, super easy to install, and, super easy to tweak. By tweaking, I mean each device can turn ON and OFF instantly, slowly or fast and double tap and long press does different things. Each device has presets such as 25%, 50%, 100%, color, or custom. Very flexible.

Groups of devices can be grouped together in SCENES and scenes can be scheduled. Control can be shared with a friend or spouse and there is even a 3rd party desktop app that works great.

Like I said, I am a man of few words and I have already talked too much.

(I have been doing Home Control for 50 years. X10 Powerline Carrier (PLC) was sold by Sears in the early ’80s. When X10 became kludgy I switched to Insteon in 2005. Insteon was a combination of PLC and RF and was the first mesh network and was loved by professional installers because it was robust. This was way before Lutron and Leviton got into lighting control. I was an electrician for 15 years before I got into building management. I have always been handy.)

they work really good. does what it suppose to do.
Have tried multiple different types of products in the past but i would prefer this over any other brand because of the price.

One thing i like to mention which is considered both ... a pros and a con is .. not having it attached to the hub.

i had few products before this which require you to buy the HUB. so the cost add up. Hub will cost you $100 and then each product will be $70 and buying multiple like in my case having 40+ will make a huge difference in cost. thats why i chose KASA.
but the way i see it as a dis-advantage is .. its hard to configure it in your router because now you have 40+ ip address with all named KASA, you don't know which one is which if something goes wrong.

**** The reason for 4 Star ******
its always been a 5 star in my book but lately i have noticed that everytime i have internet disconnection in my house .. i have to manually go to every switch and reset it... its ok for the receptacles mounted on the wall, but some of them which are hidden behind the cabinets, behind the tables.. those one are so hard. and internet disconnection is pretty normal when your router is running so many devices.

These were part of a renovation I did in our living room / Dining room. These things are very cool indeed. I have them programmed to come on in the morning so I can come into a well lit space and this eliminated the need to install a 3 way switch at the top of the stairs on my top floor. I was very much not looking forward to the installation of the 3 way switch and this saved me from that. The functionality from the app is very good. The installation was only given 3 stars because one needs to pay very close attention and must SCROLL DOWN to find this dimmer switch on the app as there is one that looks very similar in the menu at the top... I almost stroked out until I realized this... :-) The physical installation of the switches themselves might seem a bit odd at first to someone who has installed regular switches but if you follow the instructions and think about it the installation goes smoothly, Overall I am very happy with theses switches and their functionality and will in fact be order more of them for other areas of our home when I get finished with the current reno.
