This week, Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru, Wales’ publicly owned renewable energy company, was launched to secure Wales’ green future.   Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru aims to deliver clean energy projects across Wales and create social value for local communities. Trydan builds on the Renewable Energy Developer (RED) Programme, which WSP in the UK, alongside Mott MacDonald, LUC, Temple Group, Dulas Ltd, JCTR, and Axis, was appointed to earlier in the year.   We look forward to contributing to Trydan’s success by focusing on securing environmental and planning consents while advising on planning, transport and ecology.   Discover more about the initiative here: bit.ly/3W7JsYR   #TogetherWeCreate #CleanEnergy

This month, WSP in the UK colleagues are participating in our first-ever UK-wide fundraiser for our charity of the year, Macmillan Cancer Support. "Pass the Torch" challenges colleagues to complete any 5km activity of their choice, donate £5, and nominate others to do the same, creating our very own ‘torch relay’ leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympics. 🏅 A special shoutout to our Deputy Commission Manager, Emma Sadiwskyj-Frewer, associate directors, Andy Winmill, and Graham Smith, Senior Project Manager, Emma Skipworth, Senior Engineer, Amy Taranis, Associate Consultant, Thomas Edwards, Project Controls Officer, Catherine Balsom, Graduate Engineer, Wangeci Karega and Undergraduate Engineer, David Scovell, who braved the rain and completed their 5k walk from the Bournemouth Borough Council Civic Centre, through Bournemouth Upper Gardens, to Coy Pond and back. A huge congratulations to everyone for their dedication and teamwork in supporting a great cause! #TeamWSP #PassTheTorch

We are proud to see that the £150 million redevelopment of North London Waste Authority's recycling facilities at Edmonton EcoPark will officially open its doors to the public on 15th July. As a long-term technical advisor on this landmark project, WSP in the UK is thrilled to celebrate the launch of a state-of-the-art, sustainable waste management hub for North London. Key highlights of the new facility include: ➡️ New resource recovery facility: A modern centre for managing food and garden waste, mattresses, bulky items, and more. ➡️ Doubling food waste collection: The new facility will significantly expand capacity to support the upcoming compulsory food waste service for all English residents by 2026. ➡️ Community recycling centre: Residents from Enfield, Haringey, Waltham Forest, and surrounding boroughs will be able to bring materials for recycling. ➡️ Sustainable features: The facility includes North London’s largest solar array, already generating over 215,000 kWh of energy and working towards making EcoPark House off-grid. ➡️ Educational and community space: EcoPark House, opening later this year, will support the Edmonton Sea Cadets and offer educational programs on waste management and the circular economy. This achievement marks a significant step forward in North London’s environmental efforts, and we are pleased to be part of this transformative project alongside the NLWA and other partners. Exciting times at our Chancery Lane Office! 🌟 This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming over 30 students from a range of colleges and schools in and around London who joined us for our STEM work experience programme. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm of participants as they engaged with our speakers to explore topics such as sustainability, rail design, bridge engineering, work winning, bidding and skills development. Opportunities like these remind us how important it is to attract the next generation of engineers and technical specialists who will design and shape our future. A big thank you to everyone who made this possible! 🚀🔬 Sinéad Brown, Martha Smith, Paul Reilly
