PR Mums is working with a pan-industry steering group including PRCA, Chartered Institute of Public Relations, Women in PR , Grayling, Axicom, Manifest, Fine Lines, Hope&Glory PR, Full Fat Agency | Certified BCorp and The Unmistakables to create a best-practice charter for parental leave policy. We're asking for your input by completing a vital survey that’s been designed in partnership with Platform55 to provide a snapshot of where the PR industry stands today in relation to parenting policies and practice. The results will help define what best practice looks like, shape the PR Mums charter and ultimately to drive positive, meaningful and lasting change across the industry both now and in the future. As our President, Jo Carr said: 'It’s too early to declare victory. We still have a gender pay gap. We still hear horror stories about discrimination. Harassment. Ageism.  Women are still getting burnt out, blocked or discouraged from believing they can have a long, rewarding career in our industry. And we’re here to change that.' 📣 Open Committee Roles announcement! At WiPR, we are working on making our network more representative. As a next step, we are expanding our committee to create more seats at the table and allow for a greater range of voices and opinions as we shape our future goals. We are opening up three spaces reflecting areas of our work where we need more hands on deck to help us deliver WiPR’s ambitious goal – to increase the number and diversity of women in senior roles in the PR and communications industry. We encourage self-nominations from both members and non-members for these volunteer positions to bring a different perspective to the table. The deadline for nominations is 22 July 2024. Global Women in PR are seeking insight for the 6th edition of their GWPR Annual Index – the only in-depth global research of women working in the PR and communications industry. New questions have been added in GWPR’s 2024 Annual Index that seek to discover the breakdown between industry sectors of women in senior roles and the impact of career breaks on career progression. We know, despite women accounting for close to two-thirds of the workforce in PR and Comms, there remains a significant imbalance in the boardroom. The WiPR team were on the ground at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity last week, and the The Female Quotient Equality Lounge was top of our highlight list 😍 We managed to catch the “Cracking the Code, Not Just the Ceiling” panel on how we promote and retain women in leadership roles. The impressive panel included Caroline Dettman, Chief Creative and Marketing Officer, The Female Quotient, Julia Goldin, Global Chief Product & Marketing Officer, the LEGO Group, Derrick Johnson, President and CEO, NAACP (who has hired an all female leadership team), Kim Getty, CEO, Deutsch LA and Deborah Honig, Chief Customer Officer, Samsung Electronics UK. Our top takeaways were: 💡 The importance of giving future leaders the space and training to develop their own leadership identity, rather than mirroring the behaviours of those who came before them.  💡 How women often come into leadership with more insecurities than men due to societal pressures, how can women be supported rather than penalised for this?  💡 The need to rebrand ‘soft skills’ associated with women to essential skills.  💡 How bringing more diversity to the C-Suite means taking a chance on people - get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable!
