Step behind the scenes of the recent XPRIZE site visit in Scotland, conducted as part of the judging for the $100 million carbon removal competition put on by the MUSK FOUNDATION 🌍🔬 The three-day visit began with a tour of one of our partner quarries where our by-product basalt is sourced. Next, we headed over to a local farm to experience first-hand the scale of UNDO’s spreading operations and demo NEWTON, our custom-built data platform, from within the tractor for full data transparency and robust lifecycle analysis. After lunch from a nearby farm shop that has benefited from our mineral-rich rock, we stopped by our MRV trial site to collect soil samples and pore water before heading over to our mobile labs to process and test the samples. Days two and three consisted of workshop sessions with a cross-section of the team to pore over UNDO's data, walk through CDR calculations, gain insight from a tech and geochemical deep dive and share a verification update. Our selection as one of the top 20 finalists in this prestigious competition is a testament to the vast potential and efficacy of enhanced rock weathering in our joint mission to combat climate change. UNDO is a world-leading carbon dioxide removal project developer specialising in enhanced rock weathering. Enhanced weathering is a nature-based technology that permanently locks away CO₂ from the atmosphere. The geological process of weathering has happened naturally for millions of years, removing billions of tonnes of CO₂ over Earth's history. UNDO accelerates this natural process by spreading crushed silicate rock with a high reactive surface area onto agricultural land, where plants and microbes in the soil speed up the weathering process. The breakdown of the rock by CO₂ dissolved in rainwater releases nutrients and bicarbonates, which end up in the oceans as solid carbonate minerals, permanently removing CO₂. Part of Microsoft and Stripe’s Carbon Portfolios, UNDO is scaling operations in the UK, Australia and Canada. The rock, a by-product of the aggregate and mining industry, is given to local farmers for free and spread on agricultural land using existing infrastructure. In addition to permanent, rapid and scalable carbon removals, UNDO’s holistic partnership model delivers significant co-benefits such as improved soil health, ocean deacidification and increased profits for farming communities.

Today we sent an open letter to Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak signed by 180+ ClimateTech leaders calling for the next government to prioritise support for climate innovation. "Supporting ClimateTech firms will maximise our chances of hitting our net zero goals, alongside ensuring the UK is home to the industries, jobs, and economic growth of the low-carbon future." Partnering with Stephen and the ClimateImpact team, our letter called for "a comprehensive and joined-up policy agenda that makes the UK the best place in the world to found a ClimateTech business which can then scale, commercialise and export to other markets." At the end of London Climate Action Week, and with under a week to go until polling day, ClimateTech has barely registered as an issue during the election campaign. This must change after July 4th - "it is an environmental and economic imperative". What an incredible few days at Groundswell Agriculture, the regenerative agriculture festival 🚜 It was fantastic to connect with so many passionate farmers, growers, academics and environmentalists to discuss how enhanced rock weathering (ERW) can significantly benefit our soils. ERW helps improve soil health, increase crop yields and plays a crucial role in combating climate change by permanently removing CO₂ from the atmosphere. 🌍 Being able to share insights and learn from experts in conservation agriculture, no-till farming, cover crops and livestock reintroduction was truly inspiring. We are committed to supporting sustainable agriculture and empowering farmers with innovative solutions like ERW.
