📈 Accelerating climate action at scale is one of Greenhouse's primary aims. This is why we are pleased to have partnered with UNDO, a world-leading carbon dioxide removal project developer specialising in enhanced rock weathering. 🪨 UNDO creates high-quality, permanent carbon removal credits through a nature-based process known as enhanced rock weathering. This process accelerates the natural carbon removal cycle by spreading crushed silicate rock over agricultural land, speeding up the chemical reactions between the rain, air, and rocks to permanently remove CO2 from the atmosphere. If scaled to its potential, enhanced rock weathering could achieve up to 40% of global CO2 removal targets. Yesterday I appreciated the special invitation to join Jonathan Maxwell CEO of Sustainable Development Capital, LLP for the launch of his book entitled "The Edge" which I thoroughly recommend. The book is about the global competition for resources and how this is creating both climate change and geopolitical conflict. At the same time, we are wasting around three quarters of the world’s energy, half of the world’s food and a third of the world’s water. The book explores flashpoints in Russia-Ukraine, the South China Sea, the Arctic, and related topics including innovation and pathways for a more sustainable future. I learned a lot and will be dipping into it again from time to time. The book made me proud of the work SOLIVUS is contributing to solving some of these issues - by installing lightweight solar products that have a lower carbon footprint to manufacture and are installed at point of use i.e on roofs and properties. This reduces the losses that are caused by transmission through long power cables. The book also touches on the need for regeneration and biodiversity and those who know me well will know that I am all for solar on roofs first, before fields and if there is space left... to use fields for re-wilding and bring back more biodiversity. Solivus are on a mission to decarbonise the built environment which is one of the main causes of damage to our amazing planet. At Climeworks, we are on a collective mission to remove a billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by mid-century. And while we love doing what we do, our driving force is climate science and the unequivocal truth that the world needs massive carbon removal to keep temperature scales within check. On this urgent but long journey, we're guided by the experience that our co-CEO and co-founder Christoph Gebald made during his many mountain climbing adventures: "If you only focus on the summit, you'll be frustrated. What you focus on is the next step." So, this is what we do: we remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, one significant step after the other. Our journey has already seen us build the first DAC+S plant in Iceland, raise $650 million, and deliver high-quality, verified CO₂ removal services to major pioneering corporate off-takers. But this is just the beginning. The next steps involve switching on a scaled-up version of our technology in Iceland, followed by building the first plant in the US, capturing 1 million tons of carbon annually by 2030, and setting us firmly on track to remove a billion tons of carbon from 2050. Sounds ambitious? It Is. But as Giana Amador, Executive Director of the Carbon Removal Alliance, puts it: “Now is the time to be ambitious”.
