Specialist coaching company that supports organisations to create the conditions for all talent to thrive.
About us
We help high performance business cultures to support their talent and have a positive impact on families and society. Our original focus was on women because this was, and often still is, the group where the potential positive difference can be greatest. Founded by executive coach, Helen Cowan, in 2017 The Tall Wall brings together outstanding coaches located across three continents. We work with our clients to: - Identify what holds them back. - Understand themselves and realise what could be possible. - Overcome their limitations to achieve their goals. Our story Helen Cowan started her career at the sharp end of the professional services industry and latterly, trained as a coach in KPMG. Coaching became her passion and connects viscerally with her belief in equal opportunities in the workplace When The Tall Wall was founded it was to take this passion to the wider professional services sector and beyond. The Tall Wall’s particular focus is on working with talented women to empower them and enable them to make the most of their potential, without reliance on positive discrimination. Empowering women remains central to our philosophy and is expanding and evolving with each engagement. Our practice affords a privileged insight into the workings of the wider culture in which our clients seek to advance and operate. Consequently, we have seen the benefit to organisations of coaching all their talent, not exclusively women. For the teams and businesses to really thrive, the playing field needs to be level which means empowerment without bias and a remit that includes men.

'Most employees say that opportunities to work remotely and have control over their schedules are top company benefits, second only to healthcare. Workplace flexibility even ranks above tried-and-true benefits such as parental leave and childcare. As workplace flexibility transforms from a nice-to-have for some employees to a crucial benefit for most... 83 percent of employees cite the ability to work more efficiently and productively as a primary benefit of working remotely.' Recommendations for fine tuning flexible working models: *Establish clear expectations and norms around working flexibly. *Measure the impact of new initiatives to support flexibility and adjust them as needed. *Put safeguards in place to ensure a level playing field across work arrangements. #marginalflexibility #FutureOfWork #WorkplaceFlexibility

Our original focus was on coaching women because this was, and often still is, the group where the potential positive difference can be greatest. However, for teams and businesses to really thrive, the playing field needs to be both clear and level. ⚖️ This means we increasingly partner with organisations to deliver our coaching in the context of wider culture change. #GenderEquality #CultureChange #EmpowerWomen

Founder & CEO @The Tall Wall – A specialist coaching company | Keynote Speaker | Accredited Executive Coach | Gender Balance Consultant | Ex M&A Strategist at Big Four | Creating cultures for all talent to thrive
My colleagues and I at The Tall Wall have worked with Montagu Evans for nearly five years, supporting their talented people through parental and executive coaching. Yesterday I had the pleasure of facilitating a panel discussion for the firm featuring four working parents who all experience the joys and the challenges of balancing work and family life. I loved the diversity of experiences and answers given to the many questions posed by myself and the audience. The takeaways for me were: 💡 There are many ways to work flexibly. All four panellists have found entirely different solutions that worked for them, their families, the firm and their clients. 💡 Parental guilt is real! Every single parent in the room, without exception, said they have felt a level of guilt about perhaps not giving enough as a parent. No one gets this right all of the time. 💡 Sometimes parenting just has to be “good enough” - no one is winning a parent of the year award. When asked how parents cope with the long school summer holidays, for example, the consensus was one of “muddling through” at best. 💡 The biggest support felt by the panellists and some of the audience was just knowing colleagues were in a similar boat and had experienced many of their challenges - and that they could turn to them and seek their wisdom. Never underestimate the power of knowing you are not alone. 💡 Linked to the above, honesty is the best policy. Tell people - including clients as much as you can - that you are leaving to do the nursery run. Be honest about your responsibilities as a parent because it helps others do the same. 💡 Most Dads want to be an active parent and any stigma of taking extended paternal or shared parental leave is fast on the wane. This is good for parents, children and society as a whole. Thank you Vicky Thompson (She/Her) for setting up this panel and allowing my colleagues at The Tall Wall to coach the brilliant people at Montagu Evans. #workingparents #parentalcoaching #parentsatwork #coaching
