📚The High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE-FSN) have released a new report, 'Strengthening urban and peri-urban food systems to achieve food security and nutrition, in the context of urbanization and rural transformation' which provides crucial recommendations for urban and peri-urban food systems. The report covers actionable strategies to enhance food security and nutrition in rapidly urbanizing world. Exciting news from the just ended #AfricaDays in #Senegal! Aaron Adu chatted with Paul Newnham about the launch of the Africa Crops Alliance. Farmers, chefs, policymakers, and food activists came together to launch the Alliance to collaborate on reviving lost crops to promote good food for all, empower smallholder farmers and nourish the earth. But how much do you know about these crops? Over 20 per cent of Africa’s 1.3 billion people faced #hunger in 2022. With the continent’s population projected to rise to 2.5 billion by 2050, urgent action is needed to build sustainable food security. Amidst current climate, economic, and geopolitical challenges affecting food systems, it’s crucial for the continent to invest in sustainable solutions to deliver good food for all. At #AfricaDays in Senegal, chefs, policymakers, smallholder farmers, and leaders have come together to explore Africa’s ancient, 'forgotten crops’ and the opportunities they present in fighting the hunger and malnutrition crisis as well as empowering smallholder farmers.
