The latest article from The Economist highlights how small investments in #nutrition during the first 1,000 days after conception can transform lives and make the world brainier. 🌎 🧠 The story of Kebita Naima, who endured severe malnutrition while pregnant, highlights how crucial early nutrition is for brain development. Her daughter, born amid these hardships, shows slower cognitive and physical development compared to her better-nourished brother. As Meera Shekar from The World Bank explains, the "golden window" from the third trimester to the second birthday is vital. Well-nourished brains form a million synapses a second, while malnutrition leads to irreversible damage. This underscores the urgent need for targeted nutrition investments to #PowerTheChange for a brighter future for all. In reflection of yesterday's #HLPF2024 discussions, where SDG 2 took central stage in two key events, it is worth reiterating how the interconnected challenges hindering progress towards #Nutrition4All can be better understood and addressed. From the different interventions, it is clear that addressing malnutrition, and in particular its impact on women and young people, requires more robust and resilient food systems, better integration of health services, and stronger social protections. Through the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement, we are committed to forging partnerships and securing financing to achieve these crucial goals. It was a great privilege to deliver a keynote speech at the event organized by the Permanent Mission of Switzerland. I was honoured to share the stage with leaders from Malawi, Bangladesh, and Brazil, who highlighted the profound impact of malnutrition on global economies and the urgency to tackle it. As we approach the end of the United Nations Decade of Action on #Nutrition and with five years remaining to reach the #SDGs, we have to keep a strong focus on implementation at the national level based on strong data and evidence, clear policies, building on the power of concerted action by civil society, governments at national and sub national levels, international organizations and the private sector. Strong mechanisms for accountability, monitoring and reporting will lead to better food systems that both nourish people and nurture our planet. Only by working together, we can #PowerTheChange for a more resilient, prosperous and equal future for all.

#NutritiON is a cornerstone of Universal Health Coverage. In 2021, more than half of the world's population — at least 4.5 billion people — were not fully covered by essential health services. To ensure better #Health4All, governments must: ➡️ invest in essential nutrition services ➡️ scale up primary health care services and ➡️ improve health worker capacity Together, we can #PowerTheChange ✳ and ensure that vital nutrition services are universally accessible. #WHA77
