🦸♂️ It's been 10 years since the Sainsbury Centre became Avengers HQ! In June 2014, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Junior, and Chris Hemsworth assembled at our museum to film Marvel's 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'. The Sainsbury Centre went on to make multiple appearances in later Marvel films including, ‘Ant-Man’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, and one last time in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. 📸 This stunning photograph was taken in Kabul, Afghanistan by photojournalist (and co-curator of our current show) Harriet Logan. ‘In November 1997, I was sent to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan for a story about life for women under this oppressive and barely known regime. 'Kabul was heavily damaged by the years of fighting against the Soviets and this image was shot through a bullet hole. At that time photography was illegal.’ - Harriet Logan. Harriet has co-curated our current exhibition, The Camera Never Lies: Challenging Images through The Incite Project, with Tristan Lund. The show is a dynamic re-evaluation of the most iconic images of the past 100 years, and questions the ever-changing relationship between photography and truth.
