Police Care UK engagement officer Dave Blundell and trustee Chief Constable Gavin Stephens QPM were guests at the Care Of Police Survivors (COPS) Service of Remembrance in Lichfield on July 28. The pair, pictured with the Police Care UK plaque at the National Memorial Arboretum, were also on hand to welcome riders completing the UK Police Unity Tour, ridden in memory of those officers, staff and volunteers who have died on duty. "We were honoured to have been invited to this very moving and poignant service, dedicated to UK police colleagues who have died on duty, and their families," said Dave. "The event serves as a reminder of the immense sacrifice so many police families have made, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for their dignity and pride, despite the pain they are suffering. “The work undertaken by the whole COPS team to care for the families, and deliver this event was nothing short of amazing, and I want to thank Care of Police Survivors for allowing me to participate. "I very much value the ever stronger relationship between our two charities, and the other members of Police Charities UK." Police Care UK's engagement team hit the road this week to raise awareness of how we can help reduce the impact of psychological or physical trauma experienced by those in a policing role at events across the UK. Engagement officer Dave Blundell bumped into some familiar faces at Security Cleared EXPO in Manchester on July 24, where he discussed the steps we can take to assist officers, staff and their families event after they've left the force. The Charity also had representatives at wellbeing events with the British Transport Police in Cardiff on Tuesday and Cambridgeshire Constabulary on Wednesday. Thanks to those who invited us to attend and to those who hosted stands on our behalf. #PTSDAwareness #MentalHealthMatters

ONE WEEK TO GO Do you have an interest in trauma therapy and a desire to help those in the emergency services reduce the impact of trauma on their mental wellbeing? Police Care UK is looking to recruit a Project Officer to manage our ground-breaking Network of Emergency Service Therapists (NEST), which aims to establish a sustainable national network of experienced psychotherapists delivering bespoke mental health treatment specifically tailored to emergency responders. While this is a fixed-term administrative role, it could be a great stepping stone towards a future career in trauma therapy and a chance to gain some relevant experience from being around experts in the field. Current NEST Project Officer Andy Fairie said: "As an administrative role, it does not need any therapeutic knowledge, however, for those who are looking to gain experience in that field, being 'in the room' with experts is inspiring." We're also looking for a Fundraising Manager to join our team and full details of both positions can be found here > https://lnkd.in/evi9RAsV The closing date for applications is July 31, 2024. #NewJob #Jobs #Recruiting #Vacancy #NowHiring

Engagement office Dave Blundell is known for his ability to work a room and wellbeing dog Dexter looked more than impressed at a Metropolitan Police Health & Wellbeing Day in central London on Thursday. The Police Care UK stand attracted a steady flow of visitors at Holburn Police Station, where we were able to discuss the psychological and financial support we can provide current and former officers, staff and their families, who are impacted by trauma experienced in their policing role. "It was a pleasure to meet with Met officers and staff, to discuss how Police Care UK might be able to assist those who have been harmed as a result of policing," said Dave, who also thanked wellbeing co-ordinator Amanda Matson for the invite. Police Care UK representatives will be at similar events hosted by the British Transport Police in Cardiff and Cambridgeshire Constabulary next week where officers can learn how we help reduce the impact of trauma and restore lives. Any police officer can be affected by trauma experienced in their role, but new recruits on the frontline without a support network behind them, can be especially vulnerable. That is the observation of Hertfordshire Constabulary welfare officer Karen Hutchinson and is why she and colleague Frankie Westoby have committed to marching for Police Care UK in 2025. The pair completed 52 kilometres of the 24-hour 100km Peak District Challenge earlier this month in support of our work helping to reduce the impact of trauma on those exposed to it in their policing role. Fatigue and blistered feet forced them to bring their finish line forward, but they have vowed to finish the job they started and take on three more 50km walking challenges next year. Our 2018 research ‘The Job, The life’ revealed one in five police may live with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder at some point in their life. Hatfield-based acting inspector Karen, 42, has spent 18 years working in frontline policing and believes Police Care UK’s unique programme of emotional and financial support for officers is vital - now more than ever. “The pressure officers are under from the number of jobs that are coming in on a day-to-day basis, is enormous,” she said. “New officers joining the service are so young. They have never been exposed to the sort of life they face working on the front line. “Older officers have that support network in place at home or they have friends in the Job that they can talk to, but the new recruits do not have that support. “Many of them have only just left college or university and only have their mates – who have also just finished college - to fall back on." Karen and Frankie, 50 this year, trained for nine months ahead of the Peak District Challenge, waking at 5am in some instances to squeeze in an hour’s walking before work. And Police Care UK Trauma Impact Prevention Techniques (TIPT) trainer Karen revealed taking on the event helped the pair manage their her own mental health. “We're both known throughout Hertfordshire Police for constantly working. Even on our rest days,” Karen added. “From a mental health and wellbeing point of view training has given us the chance to talk about work, talk about what kind of week we’ve had and generally offload. “In many ways, the training has been the perfect way to get away from our laptops and work on our own wellbeing.” Karen and Frankie will be taking on three more walks in April, July and September next year and to support their efforts so far, visit > https://lnkd.in/edrMyEg7 If their story has inspired you to take on a challenge in aid of Police Care UK, please visit www.discoveradventure.com or www.charitychallenge.com and sign up to one of hundreds of events you could get involved with worldwide. #CharityChallenge #Fundraising #MentalHealthMatters #Police #Charity #MentalHealthAwareness #PTSDAwareness

Twelve months on from the 2023 event, Police Care UK is delighted to confirm it will be hosting a stand at the Police Resettlement Expo in Manchester Central on July 24. The Security Cleared EXPO, run alongside the Security Cleared Jobs and Cyber Security events at the same venue, is a key opportunity to remind officers we can provide financial and psychological support if they live with the effects of trauma experienced in their policing role - even after they have left the force. We'll also be on hand to discuss our Ill-Health Retirement Commitment and how we can help those going through the process with our network of Peer Support volunteers. Police Care UK is the leading national police charity working to understand and help reduce the impact trauma has on those exposed to it in UK policing. To find out more visit www.policecare.org.uk. We look forward to seeing you there. #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #PTSDAwareness

Police Care UK Project Officer Andy Fairie got a hospitable welcome as he represented the Charity at a Police Scotland Wellbeing Day in Motherwell last month. Organisers of the event at the Police Scotland Lanarkshire Division HQ on June 28, laid on coffee and cake for a wide range of exhibiting support organisations. Police Care UK is the leading national police charity providing specialist clinical therapy and financial support to current and former officers, staff and their families, who have experienced trauma in their policing role. The effect of the demands placed on Police Scotland on the mental health of those working in the service, was a hot topic of conversation and we were grateful for the opportunity to discuss the assistance we can provide directly with those who may need our help. On this day in 2023, Police Care UK volunteer and former West Midlands Police officer John Guttridge was at a British Transport Police Wellbeing Day in Birmingham on our behalf and bumped into wellbeing and support dog Holly and handler Paul Roe. In July, we will have representatives at Wellbeing Days run by Northumbria Police, Cambridgeshire Constabulary and the British Transport Police in Cardiff - the latter having been rescheduled from June 18 to avoid clashing with a Taylor Swift gig at the Principality Stadium. We continue to forge strong relationships supporting forces up and down the country and remain grateful for the opportunity to discuss our work as the leading national police charity helping to reduce the impact of trauma on members of the police family exposed to it in their policing role. #ThankYou #MentalHealthMatters #Police #Charity #PTSDAwareness #BeatPTSD #PoliceCareUK
