Peace Direct
Non-profit Organization Management
Together, we can build peace that lasts.
About us
Peace Direct believe that local people have the power to find their own solutions to conflict. Our mission is to help them to make this happen. Local people are the key to preventing, resolving and healing conflicts. They are the best way to break recurrent cycles of violence and make peace last. And increasingly they want to move away from depending on outside help, towards building their own futures. In addition, Peace Direct publishes Peace Insight, providing information on local peace-building organisations in areas of conflict, advocating international development that prioritises the views and leadership of people and organisations in the countries affected, over those of outsiders from the international community. www.peacedirect.org

Communication holds power and is fundamental to human interaction, enabling us to share thoughts, ideas, emotions, and connect with others in our environment. Communicating transparently builds trust and inspires others to support a shared vision. 💡 During a transition process, it is crucial that all actors involved—including funders, international partners, and community members—are actively incorporated into decision-making. We're busy updating our Practical Guidelines for Communicating Transitions to Local Ownership. We are horrified at the racist violence and intimidation we're seeing in communities across the UK. Muslims, Black and Brown people and people seeking asylum and refuge are being terrorised by a small minority who are using far-right misinformation and speech as an excuse to create chaos and fear. The violence and hatred is fuelled by years of Islamophobic, anti-migrant, anti-refugee policies and rhetoric from the previous UK governments. The media has supported these policies, amplified this rhetoric, and dehumanised the communities that are now being targeted. Some outlets are now legitimising the attacks by framing them as 'protest'. Peace Direct works with partners around the world who strive to heal divides in communities and build sustainable peace. This week's events show us how necessary it is to support peacebuilding initiatives in the UK just as much as elsewhere. We know that the vast majority of people in the UK want this violence to stop, and to see an end to the dangerous speech that fuels it. So today we ask you to support the work of anti-racist organisations in the UK who are working to bring communities together and build peace, for example: Freedom from Torture Runnymede Trust Refugee Action HOPE not hate Praxis, for Migrants and Refugees Read the statement on our website: https://lnkd.in/edpdM-Xe

📣Fundraisers! This is for you 👇 We've been testing ways to decolonise our fundraising practices. Our first 'Co-Appeal' with Chanan Development Association (CDA) launched last year, and we're now working on a Co-Appeal with Envision Zimbabwe Women's Trust . Here are just some of our key takeaways ⬇️ ⏳Co-creation takes time. "Co-creation requires us to agree on a new way of working – across two teams, often across time zones, and with shared decision-making power." 🧠Co-Appeals mean we keep learning, together. "We are walking together in every aspect of the work." 🎨Creativity is key. "We worked with the Peace Direct team to make it more engaging for a public audience by using creative formats... the results were pleasantly surprising for us!" 🔗Learn more in our latest blog: https://ow.ly/TgVp50SOYgJ #DecolonisingFundraising #Fundraising #Peacebuilding

SAS+ defines mutual capacity strengthening as “a process of strengthening skills, knowledge, and network contacts in which all actors participate as equal partners.” 💡 What it looks like varies as widely as the contexts and partners involved. What is common across the examples is a different mentality about capacity strengthening: there is room for both international and local partners to be transformed. We're busy finalizing our Mutual Capacity Strengthening Guidelines for Transitions to Local Ownership.
