Global markets faltered this week due to fears of a US recession. Japan’s Topix, the FTSE100, and S&P all experienced falling stocks, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq taking a slightly bigger hit at 3.4%, as large tech companies were among the worst hit. In more positive news, data released by The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors showed that the UK property market is beginning to pick up, following the result of the general election, and the Bank of England’s first rate cut of 2024. Data from Halifax showed house prices had risen 0.8% in July, following three months of relatively flat growth.
