Non-profit Organizations

A charity on a mission to improve the lives of young people in London, challenging them to become the best they can.

About us

We are London Youth: a charity on a mission to champion and strengthen London’s youth organisations so young people have the opportunities and skills they need to succeed. We do this with and through our members – a network of 600 youth organisations – and at our two outdoor residential centres, Hindleap Warren and Woodrow High House. Throughout our 135-year history, community youth organisations have provided a constant lifeline and a vital safe space outside the family and formal education, where young people can develop confidence, resilience and skills. Young people need opportunities outside school to have fun with their friends, to make a positive change in their communities and to shape the city they live in.

London’s community youth sector is uniquely placed to reach young people in every borough and plays a crucial role in inspiring young Londoners into successful careers. Thanks to our Summer Skills Grants partnership with CVC, we’ve provided the additional support our member organisations need to upskill and inspire thousands of young people.  This week, we celebrate #YouthEmploymentWeek which is all about connecting young people to opportunities and raising awareness of the benefits of hiring young people. With our member youth organisations, we’re determined to progress young people’s career aspirations, build their skills and resilience, and enhance their employability through a variety of programmes. Because all young people deserve to be excited and inspired about their futures. We work with youth organisations to provide opportunities and skills young people need to succeed in life.  This #WorldYouthSkillsDay, we spotlight our Heritage Programme tailored to help young Londoners connect with their cultural heritage, enabling them to uncover fascinating stories and traditions within their communities.  During the recent Creative Taster Day, young people had an opportunity to interact with our partners and learn different skills to express themselves. Through dance, arts and crafts, poetry, and public speaking, young people can gain a better understanding of themselves and develop their confidence. 🎥 Watch the video to learn more about the programme and the skills young people had an opportunity to learn.  Made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players.  Find out more about the Heritage programme: https://lnkd.in/exDbBdH9  Mediorite ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company Artizine UK Short Circuit Theatre Poetic Unity Start Easy

We look forward to working with the new Labour government and with the newly appointed Secretary of State in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy, alongside our partners, members and young Londoners in support of their commitments to young people and the youth sector.     We welcome Labour’s recognition of the transformational role of youth work for young people through their commitment to embedding youth workers in Young Futures Hubs. We must now work collectively to revive the sector and address critical shortages in the current workforce with a pipeline of qualified and fairly paid youth practitioners. All young people deserve access to youth provision in their communities, with a trusted youth worker to support them.    Breaking down barriers to opportunity is a central Labour mission which is key to building a fairer society. As a youth infrastructure body, we welcome the new investment in education and broadening of the curriculum; the apprenticeships and skills reforms and critical measures to address the mental health crisis for young people. We hope to see the flourishing of apprenticeship and traineeship pathways for young people as set out in Labour’s youth guarantee, underpinned by the vital transitional support that young people and employers need to maximise these opportunities.    ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eVGQPAD2

The Digital Talent Programme 2.0 supports young people to kick off their careers in the digital, data and tech sectors. The training opportunities provided as part of the programme increase young people's employability skills, access to job opportunities and confidence in pursuing their careers. One of our partners, COVENT GARDEN DRAGON HALL TRUST, has been delivering the OCN Level 2 Award in Digital Skills, sharing insights into computational thinking. Young people participating in the training have been taking part in tasks to learn how to break down information to solve a problem. A huge thank you to our partner Computacenter for the generous donation of laptops ❤️ Young people involved in the programme will now be able to achieve even more! #digitaltalent #careerintech #youthwork

Yesterday, we hosted our NDYP Mentoring Community Network focused on supporting care-experienced young people. We engaged in vital discussions about the transformative impact of mentoring and how mentorship can enhance the lives and futures of young individuals. We had three insightful presentations from MCR Pathways, iAspire Care Service and New Horizon Youth Centre, including an insight from a young person sharing their experience. Jigsaw GC also facilitated reflection on ‘How do we role model, showing up for ourselves’. Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend and participate. We're looking forward to hosting our next network! #mentoring #network

What are our members and young people seeking from the new Government?    Today’s #GeneralElection2024 is an opportunity to address what’s most urgently needed to support young Londoners to thrive. We asked young people and youth professionals from our membership about their unique perspectives on the needs of the youth sector in the capital.  Hear from Jordan from Mary’s Youth Club calling the next Government for full recognition and support of the youth sector as a place for young people to develop their agency. Together with our members, we’re urging the new Government to:  ✔️ Provide long-term investment in community spaces and places where great youth work happens.  ✔️ Elevate the youth sector workforce by recognising, rewarding and developing their career pathways.  ✔️ Commit to providing a consistent and equitable national youth offer for all young people.  ✔️ Centre young people in all political decision making that shapes their futures.  ✔️ Appoint a secretary of state for youth whose remit is to join up all relevant policies for children and young people.
