Businesses that have yet to implement an ESG strategy should do so before it's too late, but they should resist the temptation to jump straight to securing B Corp certification at the start of their ESG journey. 🌍 That's one of the key messages to come out of a recent discussion attended by Sadaf Askari, Associate Director in our Smart Energy & Sustainability team, focusing on how the real estate industry can do more when it comes to environmental, social and governance requirements. This #ThrowbackThursday we're casting our eye back to Pontypridd in 2020. Despite the obvious challenges of that year, our team in Wales pulled out all the stops to deliver Llys Cadwyn - a shining example of regeneration done right. Alongside Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Darnton B3 Architecture Ltd, Willmott Dixon and Rhomco, we transformed a derelict shopping centre into a striking flagship development, providing office space for over 1,000 people and a community ‘hub’ includes a library, gym, activity studio, café and customer contact point. The development has brought hundreds of employment opportunities to the area, breathing life into the river’s edge by creating public realm spaces and connecting both sides of the river with a striking new footbridge. A multiple-award-winning project, Llys Cadwyn is symbolic of what can be achieved when a local authority takes a visionary approach to determining the future of its town centre. Find out how our multi-disciplinary engineering services helped bring the development to life: https://lnkd.in/eepBNurk #Wales #regeneration #engineering #BREEAM #sustainability 📸 Phil Boorman Photography

Cautiously optimistic - that seems to be the mood across the built environment following the King's Speech earlier today, as gathered by Place North West. Danny Hope, our Regional Director for the North West, joined industry experts from across the region in sharing his immediate thoughts: "It’s clear that change is coming. Today’s speech focused on creating growth and opportunity – up and down the country," he said. "The North West is ready for fast-paced change, but we must be resolute on the fundamentals of sustainability, connectivity, and community to unlock potential. Let’s create places people actually want to live and work." Read more from Danny on how we do that, along with the bigger picture from across the property industry, here 👇 https://lnkd.in/edQbX8v8

Did you know that your morning shower could be contributing more to climate change than your daily commute? Shocking, but it's true – heating our homes and buildings accounts for over 50% of European energy consumption. Decarbonising this sector isn't just rhetoric; it's the key to unlocking a sustainable future. In our opinion, we risk missing our net zero targets if we don’t embrace existing sustainable options when decarbonising the heating and cooling of our buildings. Want to explore how we can adopt a climate-friendly way to stay warm? Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gDwMeeRC #decarbonisation #heatdecarbonisation #sustainability #renewableenergy
