How can we manage the risks that climate change poses to our environment, our buildings, our infrastructure? Indeed, how do we adapt for the future? We helped the University of Nottingham understand the very real impacts of climate change putting their campuses at risk, including heatwaves, flooding and wildfires, and crucially - how to adapt to them. Using the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC)’s Physical Risk Framework, our report identified and recommended adaptation measures including passive and nature-based solutions, and design interventions to futureproof the campus. This approach has ultimately enabled the University to put in place the right measures and mitigations, securing long term resilience to extreme weather events and a changing climate. 🎥Watch our video case study 🎥 #Climateadaptation #ClimateChange #Sustainability #HigherEducation #ThrowbackThursday

The global data centre market is projected to skyrocket to $344 billion by 2030, but it’s a high-reward-high-risk industry, with potential losses during outages mounting to thousands of dollars per minute. So it’s vital that data centres are designed to meet their unique demands as efficiently as possible. #ICYMI, earlier this year we mapped out the five key themes we expected to see more of from this rapidly growing sector, including: ⚡ Access to power 🏗️ Structural efficiency 🚒 Bespoke fire safety solutions 🏘️ Localised 'edge' data centres 🤖 The growing role of AI By embracing these themes, data centre operators are poised to meet the demands of our increasingly digitised world. This #ThrowbackThursday we're casting our eye back to Pontypridd in 2020. Despite the obvious challenges of that year, our team in Wales pulled out all the stops to deliver Llys Cadwyn - a shining example of regeneration done right. Alongside Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Darnton B3 Architecture Ltd, Willmott Dixon and Rhomco, we transformed a derelict shopping centre into a striking flagship development, providing office space for over 1,000 people and a community ‘hub’ includes a library, gym, activity studio, café and customer contact point. The development has brought hundreds of employment opportunities to the area, breathing life into the river’s edge by creating public realm spaces and connecting both sides of the river with a striking new footbridge. A multiple-award-winning project, Llys Cadwyn is symbolic of what can be achieved when a local authority takes a visionary approach to determining the future of its town centre. Find out how our multi-disciplinary engineering services helped bring the development to life: https://lnkd.in/eepBNurk #Wales #regeneration #engineering #BREEAM #sustainability 📸 Phil Boorman Photography

Cautiously optimistic - that seems to be the mood across the built environment following the King's Speech earlier today, as gathered by Place North West. Danny Hope, our Regional Director for the North West, joined industry experts from across the region in sharing his immediate thoughts: "It’s clear that change is coming. Today’s speech focused on creating growth and opportunity – up and down the country," he said. "The North West is ready for fast-paced change, but we must be resolute on the fundamentals of sustainability, connectivity, and community to unlock potential. Let’s create places people actually want to live and work." Read more from Danny on how we do that, along with the bigger picture from across the property industry, here 👇 https://lnkd.in/edQbX8v8
