As we continue to celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, we’re profiling this rising engineering star. Inspired by the possibility of improving healthcare outcomes for individuals worldwide, Kathryn Lakatos pursued Biomedical Engineering, combining engineering and biology principles to develop solutions that directly impact patient care. Her connections led to an internship and a career at Volk Optical Inc., a Halma company with a mission of eradicating preventable blindness through accessible imaging of the eye. In 2023 Kathryn helped to launch a new surgical lens used by vitreoretinal surgeons, the company’s first new lens in five years, and she also supported the software development of Volk’s VistaView™ which enables those who live far from healthcare facilities to have their eyesight tested, particularly those in remote communities that may otherwise be underserved. #INWED2024 #EnhancedByEngineering #WomenInHalma #WomenInSTEM

Cervical cancer claims a woman's life every two minutes. It is the fourth most common cancer among women globally. However, it is also one of the most treatable forms of cancer if diagnosed early. Cervical screening matters in the fight against cervical cancer. 👉 Early detection saves lives: regular screening can detect abnormal cells before they turn into cancer, significantly improving the chances of successful treatment. 👉 Empowerment through knowledge: being informed about your health allows you to take proactive steps and make informed decisions. 👉 Community Health: widespread participation in screening programs helps protect not only individuals but also entire communities. Rovers Medical Devices B.V., a Halma company based in the Netherlands, plays a vital role in the fight against cervical cancer by producing high-quality brushes designed for cervical cancer screening. As we mark Cervical Screening Awareness Week, we want to emphasise the importance of regular screenings in the early detection and prevention of this disease. #CervicalScreeningAwarenessWeek #WomensHealth #CervicalCancerPrevention #SaferCleanerHealthier

At Halma, we embrace the spirit of Pride Month, standing alongside the LGBTQ+ community, and working towards a world where all celebrate acceptance, respect, and equal rights. Building diverse and inclusive businesses is fundamental to achieving our purpose. It starts with creating a culture of inclusion where individuals feel safe and empowered to bring their whole selves to work. This foundation expands by investing in equitable benefits that support all employees, enabling us to fully realise the advantages of a healthy and engaged workforce. This includes our global equal paid parental leave policy, designed with all parents in mind, including same-sex couples, to allow adequate time to care for and bond with their new children. Last year, when the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ were challenged, we were also proud to add coverage for gender affirmation and reassignment services in the US, our largest region by employee number. We know there’s much work to be done to achieve equality and we are committed to building diverse and inclusive businesses that ensure the safety, dignity, and belonging of our LGBTQ+ colleagues. #HalmaWithPride #PrideMonth
