Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage
Non-profit Organizations
A global partnership of more than 1,600 civil society organisations committed to ending child marriage
About us
Girls Not Brides is the only global organisation uniquely focused on creating and sustaining a worldwide movement to end child marriage, and ensuring that this movement leads to tangible change for the girls at risk or affected by the practice. We are a network of over 1,400 civil society organisations in over 100 countries working in partnership to end child marriage. Our vision is a world without child marriage where girls and women enjoy equal status with boys and men and are able to achieve their full potential in all aspects of their lives. Our vision challenges deeply embedded social norms that harm the lives of girls, women and their communities.

Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage reposted this
🌟Representing #GirlsNotBrides at #PANCOGED1: United Against School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV)! 🌟 I had the honor of representing Girls Not Brides at the High level Ministerial panel of PANCOGED1 conference on girls’ and women’s education. Girls Not Brides is a global partnership of over 1,400 civil society organizations committed to ending child marriage and enabling girls to fulfill their potential. At this event, I had the opportunity to present crucial recommendations to strengthen the fight against school related gender-based violence (SRGBV). Education is the key to ending child marriage and it is essential to keep girls in school. 🔸 Our main recommendations: 1. Adopt comprehensive policies that explicitly prohibit all forms of violence in schools. 2. Implement confidential and accessible reporting mechanisms for GBV incidents. 3. Provide mandatory training for teachers and school staff on GBV. 4. Collect data and regular feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. 5. Involve parents, community, religious, and traditional leaders in awareness programs. 6. Collaborate with ministries of health, social services and justice for a holistic approach. We commend the progress made by governments and communities. For example, Sierra Leone has criminalized child marriage, and Senegal has criminalized rape. Inspired by Togo’s measures, we can also create national observatories to monitor and evaluate sexual violence. In addition, victims need access to support services, including medical care, reproductive health services and legal assistance. Youth involvement is central to these efforts. With the active involvement of young people, like Natacha Silga, our youth leader from Burkina Faso, we can all contribute to eradicating school-related gender-based violence and promote a culture of respect and equality. Together, we can make a significant difference, ensuring that all girls can complete their education and live free from violence and discrimination. #GirlsEducation #EndChildMarriage #GBV #GirlsNotBrides #PANCOGED1

#HRC56 Today, at the #HumanRightsCouncil in Geneva, we delivered a crucial oral intervention urging states to accelerate efforts to #EndChildMarriage. Girls Not Brides, GAMCOTRAP and Equality Now urge states to: 1️⃣ Support the establishment of a new Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which would expand the right to #education to include at least one year of free pre-primary education, and free secondary education; 2️⃣ Adopt policy measures that increase adolescent girls’ autonomy in the household, making work a viable option; coupled with facilitating employment opportunities as an alternative to marriage; and 3️⃣ Adopt and protect, where these exist, legislative measures that outlaw child marriage and other harmful practices, including #FGM/C, including by supporting efforts to maintain the current law against FGM/C in The Gambia. It's time to take decisive steps towards protecting the rights and futures of all children.
