📈In 2023 there were 7,115 convictions for trafficking in persons crimes. This represents an increase from 2022, which saw 5,577 convictions. Human trafficking is a severe violation of human rights. We must strengthen our judicial systems to effectively combat this crime and protect the vulnerable. ⚖️🌎 #IAWJ #EndHumanTrafficking #HumanRights

In Botswana, our focus lies in enhancing the proficiency of judges, aligning their practices with international human rights frameworks for Promoting Inclusive Justice. Across the global landscape, we are diligently working to amplify awareness about the pressing issue of Sexortion, transcending boundaries to foster a collective understanding. Furthermore, our commitment to nurturing strong leadership avenues for women in judiciaries across the Global South finds its embodiment in the Women in Leadership in Law (WILIL) initiative. Dr Carolyn Graydon’s research paper, Towards gender balance and equality in Pacific judiciaries is now available at the International Association of Women Judges website: https://lnkd.in/ee84hNhD This paper looks at the advancement and achievements of women across all levels of Pacific judiciaries as well as some of the barriers that continue to prevent gender equality. The paper includes recommendations towards overcoming these barriers through supported professional development, mentoring, research and admin support, space for work/life balance and healthy, respectful working environments. More than 100 Pacific women judicial officers across courts shared their stories, experiences, and perspectives with Carolyn. As Carolyn points out in her paper, the findings and recommendations expressed in the publication are the author’s alone and don't necessarily reflect the views of MFAT, or the MFAT-funded Pacific Justice Sector Programme.
