What does the general election result mean for food? Chances are, the food system we have in place today may not be the food system that exists at the end of the next term of government Why? Acting on food policy is inevitable if Labour is going to meet its commitments to protect the NHS, achieve net zero, restore nature _____ 3 food-systems post election take-outs: 1️⃣ 22 Labour MPs and peers have been appointed to key cabinet positions - including a record 11 women 👏 BTW - Wes Streeting is Health Secretary & Steve Reed is Secretary of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs 2️⃣ 300 Labour MPs have been re-elected. These MPs are potentially familiar with food systems Manifesto commitments & current food policy (e.g HFSS) Now is a key moment to engage on more ambitious programme for change 💥 3️⃣ Across parties, 334 candidates are becoming MPs for the first time, & 15 are becoming MPs after a gap in service Engaging them in the first few weeks on what food policy means for their constituents is critical - to set the ground for supporting policy implementation*** Let's go 🚀 ___ Working on engaging the new gov around food policy? Share your agenda in comments. I've popped in our Children's Alliance asks 💚 ***(Obesity Health Alliance & Children's Alliance is doing outreach - DM to get a template email to share with your MP) #election #labour #policy 📷 House of Commons Library

Accelerating business transformation in the Food and Drink industry | Climate, Health & Innovation

I was a teenager the last time Labour was in power It's a big day if you work in the #food industry. The previous government has driven frustration and inaction. There will be 330 new MPs coming to parliament, and it should be celebrated that there will be over 240 female MPs, the highest number ever. With change comes an opportunity to inspire and engage, which gives an opportunity for progress The new government:  ➡ Has the opportunity to lead the world with a new agricultural strategy, ensuring value for all in the supply chain ➡ Can put inequality firmly at the heart of the debate, ensuring our food systems are fair for all  ➡ Take responsibility to level the playing field in the industry and roll out with the National Food Strategy  ➡ Put us back on the map at the home of progressive and purpose led food innovation The transition to a healthier and more sustainable food system is hard. Collaboration, new policy and investment is key, so are the skills and knowledge needed for teams to make the jump. If you're a business looking to accelerate your transition, or get more support on how you can make a change, I want to speak to you, and Future Food Movement can help
