Exciting announcement from the Secretary of State from Defence at the Farnborough International Airshow today. Laser weapons for the Land domain are a reality - Raytheon UK, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) and Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) have successfully tested Raytheon’s High-Energy Laser Weapon System (HELWS) integrated onto a British Army combat vehicle, the first test of its kind in the UK. Trials with the British Army will now start very soon.

Unleashing the power… Our experts worked with Dstl and UK suppliers to develop a cutting-edge laser energy weapon that can be seen mounted to a British Army Wolfhound. 📸 🐺 The laser, which tracks multiple targets at the speed of light, has been tested at Dstl's range in Porton Down and can neutralise targets such as enemy drones at distances in excess of 1km.

Ready. Aim. Fire! It’s time to reveal the news you’ve been waiting for... Alongside Dstl and the UK Ministry of Defence, we’ve successfully completed a live-fire test of our High Energy Laser Weapon System (HELWS). In this evolving threat landscape, the low cost and high impact of Uncrewed Air Systems (UASs) means innovative new solutions are needed now. Laser directed energy weapons form a key pillar of modern air defence, engaging UASs at far lower cost than traditional methods. This live-fire field test marks a key moment in the UK’s adoption of this critical technology. Image created by combining infrared and regular footage:
