We back people to protect rainforest and fight the climate crisis.

About us

We’re Cool Earth. We exist to champion the relationship between people, rainforest and climate. We raise and give cash directly, and partner with indigenous people and local communities on projects that tackle the root causes of deforestation. Right now the world is in a climate crisis. People have lived in balance with forest for thousands of years. The real rainforest experts, now face extreme injustice whilst living on the front line of the climate crisis. The most effective way to fight back is to protect the best carbon-storing technology that already exists: rainforest. And the best way to do that? Back, support and listen to the people living there with Cool Earth.

More proof of the vital connection between Indigenous peoples and rainforest protection in the Amazon. 🌳 Despite protecting the lungs of the planet, Indigenous communities have some of the lowest levels of socioeconomic development. By improving the economic wellbeing of Indigenous communities, we can support both social justice and rainforest protection. Source: @theconversationdotcom

We've signed the Zero Hour UK: Climate and Nature Bill letter to the UK Prime Minister asking for his support of the Bill. Backed by over 200 experts, the Bill was designed by scientists to ensure the UK meets its 2030 targets. With global temperatures hitting record highs and nearly a million species facing extinction, the next five years are crucial to address these challenges. https://lnkd.in/e_hmjhhW

Updates from the Amazon rainforest 🍃 The Cool Earth Peru team have visited the Camantavishi community in the Amazon to renew our forest protection agreement. 🌳 Thanks to this partnership, Cool Earth and Camantavishi will continue to work alongside each other for another year to protect the rainforest from deforestation, and to strengthen the community.

Businesses that offset 👀 - it's interesting that dropping carbon credits is portrayed here as negative...I'd actually argue otherwise. Scrapping your climate negative claim isn't a FAILURE, it's a wake-up call for effective corporate climate strategies. At Cool Earth, we've long maintained that carbon offsetting is a flawed approach. And here's why these recent news articles highlight this: 📈 It exposes the unstable nature of carbon markets. They're right - carbon markets ARE unsustainable. 🌳 It highlights the risks of greenwashing. You can't just stick a certification on something, especially when it's been proven that more than 90% of rainforest offsets are worthless. 👇 It underscores the need for real emissions reductions. Climate offsetting diverts attention and resources away from necessary emissions reductions. The path forward isn't through offsetting, but through genuine commitment to reducing emissions and supporting communities on the frontlines of climate change. It's time for a new era of corporate climate responsibility – one based on real action, not paper promises.

🗣️ Early data in from our Basic Income pilot Last year, we launched the first ever Basic Income pilot of it's kind for people living in the Amazon and so far we're seeing: 🐟 Improved nutrition: Families with better access to food. 😮💨 Reduced pressure: Less financial worries for people living in the rainforest. ✊ Independence: People are dedicating more time towards food growing and farming. A basic income means that for the next two years, every adult in the pilot communities will be receiving a regular income to sustain their needs. But how does this protect the rainforest? 🌳 Well, rainforest health is directly linked to the strength of the people living alongside it. With a basic income, rainforest communities can meet their most urgent needs, ensuring they remain strong and healthy too. We've co-created this pilot with our Indigenous partners ONAMIAP and OMIASEC with support from AidKit 💚

"It represents our dedication to safeguarding our rainforest for future generations. With Cool Earth's partnership, we are empowered to pursue sustainable livelihoods whilst preserving our culture" - Idau Misima, Sololo Chief. The rainforest community of Sololo in Papua New Guinea are the latest community to sign their yearly forest agreements with Cool Earth ⭐ This partnership means we can provide funding to support the people of Sololo in maintaining their way of life in the New Guinea forest 🌳
