Civic and Social Organizations

For over 150 years, the British Red Cross has helped people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are.

About us

The British Red Cross is a volunteer-led movement that connects those who have kindness to share, with the people who need it most. We help people in crisis get the support they need anywhere in the UK and around the world. The people we help can trust that we’re completely neutral, independent and impartial. Our supporters know that we help those most in need, and our staff and volunteers can see they’re a part of a unique movement which anyone is welcome to join.

To date, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has supported over 1.5 million people, and as well as its ongoing humanitarian response, this month, the International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC established a field hospital in Rafah alongside PRCS and other National Societies including British Red Cross. We must see an increase in aid, at a much faster pace. More food, medicines, and personnel are needed now to respond to this crisis.

Right now, every day is a fight for survival for people in Gaza. Food is running out. Clean water is scarce. There’s nowhere safe left to go. And, while the immediate needs are critical, the longer-term needs are also unimaginable. Homes have been destroyed, families are traumatised and there is little to no healthcare system left. People’s lives hang in the balance. But together we can help avert an even greater disaster. Donate now to help Red Cross and Red Crescent teams provide life-saving aid today as well as vital support for the years ahead: https://lnkd.in/dB_9sc3m Thank you.

We welcome the news that more people seeking safety in the UK will have their asylum claims assessed. Living in this state of limbo has devastating impacts for people as they wait for a decision to be made. They’re often not able to work, access education or apply for benefits. By addressing and clearing the backlog, people can finally get on with their lives and contribute to their communities. #Rwanda #EveryRefugeeMatters

Families in Israel and beyond still desperately await news of loved ones being held hostage in Gaza. The lack of access remains a source of deep frustration and grave concern. But the International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC continues to engage with all parties to call for their unconditional release, and for them to be treated humanely, receive adequate healthcare, be allowed to contact their families and for the ICRC to have access to them.

    • Reminder: The plight of those taken hostage and their families had been, and continues to be, a top priority for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

We continue to reiterate what the ICRC has said clearly from the outset of the crisis: those taken hostage must be released immediately.

Our colleague, Nebal, from the Palestine Red Crescent Society shares more about the reality for people in Gaza right now ⬇️ Famine is looming and the healthcare system has all but collapsed. Most people have fled from their homes, but there is nowhere safe left to go. People urgently need clean water, food, and medical care. Red Cross and Red Crescent teams have been working tirelessly to alleviate suffering wherever they can. But we need your help. If you can, please donate today: https://lnkd.in/dB_9sc3m Thank you.

Our year in numbers 🙌 Today we publish our Trustees' report and accounts. In 2023, our work helping people in crisis was more important than ever. From supporting people affected by the outbreak of conflict in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, to delivering lifesaving aid after the catastrophic earthquakes in Türkiye, Syria, Afghanistan and Morocco, and supporting communities in the UK hit by extreme weather, we were there when people needed us.
