  • 🚀The BRiM Sponsorship Program is Back! 🚀 We are thrilled to announce the return of the BRiM Sponsorship Program! Originally launched in 2022, this groundbreaking initiative is designed to accelerate the careers of mid-level Black professionals in the UK’s marketing industry and their senior sponsors. 📊 Why Sponsorship? It’s tough to progress in any organisation without a sponsor. Most sponsorship relationships are informal, with a senior person supporting the upward progression of a team member by championing them and giving them access to opportunities. However, people from underrepresented groups are less likely to get informal sponsors. Just 5% of up-and-coming Black employees succeed in winning sponsorship, compared to 20% of their white peers. That is why we have formalised the process with this program, encouraging leaders to make space so that their Black talent can take up space. Only 1% of C-Suite leaders in the advertising industry are Black, and Black professionals are seven times more likely to face racial discrimination. All In, the ad industry’s workforce inclusion survey and action plan, recently announced investing in a sponsorship program as the key action organisations can take to improve the experience and representation of Black talent. 🔑 What Makes Our Program Different? Our program is about creating opportunities for groups that have been historically sidelined, not fixing faults. By empowering high-potential Black talent, we're driving transformative changes across the industry. 📅 Program Details: - Start Date: September 2024 - Duration: 9 months - Delivery: By the renowned DEI consultancy, The Avenir Network 💼Program Features: - Full-cohort training sessions led by experts - Tailored Sponsor/Sponsee pair activities - Comprehensive guides, tools, and resources - Success stories spotlighting brands and individuals 📣 How to Join: This program is open to any organization with a marketing and communications department or entities within the advertising, marketing, and media industries. Participating organizations will be asked  to match their high-potential, mid-level Black team members with senior leaders for this transformative journey. 🔗 Interested? For more details or to sign up, please contact us at Inclusion@adassoc.org.uk. We’re here to help guide you every step of the way. Join us in paving the way for the next generation of leaders! 💪 #DiversityAndInclusion #CareerDevelopment #Leadership #MarketingIndustry #BRiMSponsorshipProgram #Empowerment #ProfessionalGrowth #BreakingBarriers

  • What happens after you break through the Glass Ceiling? This morning, outstanding author Sophie Williams shared eye-opening insights into a phenomenon many of us have seen firsthand, and gave us the language, data and examples to back it up. In her new book on The Glass Cliff,  Sophie draws on 20 years of research and data to shed light on a pattern which shows that women are more likely to be appointed to senior leadership roles in times of crisis, when a business is already experiencing consistently poor performance. This (along with other related factors), severely impacts their chances of success and fuels the false narrative that women lack leadership skills. She underscored the undeniable truth that while talent and ability are genderless, access to opportunity is less so, and this effect is amplified the more intersections a person has. She also shared examples of how to combat this, emphasising the importance of leadership acknowledgment, transparency, and proactive planning. We love bringing together great people to talk about great ideas that fuel real action. Thanks to Sophie for raising our awareness of this phenomenon and giving us tools to fight it (take a minute now to go buy her book please, it’s GOOD), to Caroline Foster Kenny, exec chair of BRiM for guiding us through the morning’s discussions, and to Dinah Williams and The Avenir Network for partnering with us on this event and hosting a truly inspiring conversation 💛 . Thanks most of all to everyone who came out on a rainy Tuesday morning to share, learn, connect and take action.

  • Join us for a BRiM special event in partnership with The Avenir Network, The Glass Cliff: Why Underrepresented Leaders in Power are Undermined and How to Fight Back. Why is it that time and time again, we witness women and other underrepresented leaders being promoted into seemingly promising roles during challenging times, only to face heightened scrutiny, increased pressure to perform, and limited support or resources? Today, the exceptional Sophie Williams publishes her new book, "The Glass Cliff: Why Women in Power are Undermined and How to Fight Back, " a timely exploration of what lies beyond the Glass Ceiling. Don't miss out on this enlightening conversation about overcoming biases against women and individuals from underrepresented communities in leadership roles. You'll be able to take part in a thought-provoking audience Q&A session, and get your hands on a copy of this groundbreaking book. 📅 Date: Tuesday, March 12th ⏰ Time: 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM 📍 Location: Meta Brock Street office Space is limited and filling up fast! Register now to secure your spot using the link in the comments.
