At #CONy2024 in London, ADI CEO Paola Barbarino spoke on the vital importance of both international governmental organisations and national governments to address treatment access issues for those living with #dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She highlighted a critical issue that many health ministers worldwide do not fully understand the impact of dementia within their countries, a disconnection that can have severe implications to the mental health of people living with dementia and their carers. ADI calls on both international bodies and national governments to make dementia a health priority. More than ever, we need policy makers to step up and ensure that those affected by dementia receive the care they need. https://lnkd.in/e9eVvVtX #DementiaPolicy #TimeToActOnDementia #WhatsYourPlan #ADI

Yesterday, while the day was just beginning in Europe, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) health cluster meeting was already underway. ADI Regional Director for Asia-Pacific, DY Suharya, addressed the delegation, updating The ASEAN Secretariat member states on ADI's ongoing work in international dementia policy and urged them to join ADI's call for a 10-year extension to the Global Action Plan on dementia. This hybrid meeting, hosted in Myanmar, welcomed 170 representatives from 10 countries in the Southeast Asia region. It served as a crucial platform for directing efforts towards achieving dementia-friendly policies on a national level. In the latest report of the 'From Plan to Impact' series, ADI has highlighted that the number of national dementia plans (NDPs) implemented by WHO member states has stagnated since 2023, remaining at 39. With only four national dementia plans being implemented in the Southeast Asia region, ADI welcomes the positive reception of DY Suharya's intervention at the ASEAN meeting and appreciates ASEAN health cluster’s Chair from Myanmar encouraging all ASEAN members, including Myanmar, to start developing their National Dementia Plans as soon as possible, in light of this growing challenge. You can gain further global insights and learn from expert analysis on the national dementia plan landscape in our free digital report: https://lnkd.in/eNEhUy7h #ASEAN #ASEANHealth #NationalDementiaPlan #FromPlanToImpact #Dementia #DementiaPolicy
