Today, the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human use issued a negative opinion on the marketing authorisation application of Eisai EMEA for lecanemab, for the treatment of early #Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer Europe regrets the negative European Medicines Agency opinion, which may deprive Europeans with Alzheimer’s disease from a medicine that is available in the US and other global regions. We fear that this opinion takes away choice from individuals with early Alzheimer’s disease, and advocate for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their families to be included in assessing the risks and benefits of new medicines. Alzheimer Europe reiterates its call for continued research into treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, including symptomatic treatments as well as therapies for people in more advanced stages.
