The votes are in! It’s official, the The Labour Party will form our next government. Congratulations to Keir Starmer on your new appointment as Prime Minister and congratulations to all the newly elected MP’s. We have taken note of your proposals for reforming the NHS, particularly your vision for primary care and your focus to reduce waiting lists. The key policies outlined in the Labour Party’s Election Manifesto clearly resonate with UK electorate, including the commitments you made for the NHS. As the charity representing the voices of the whole allergic community, we will be paying close attention to how these policies will transform into meaningful action. We look forward to meeting with you and your Labour Party colleagues so we can highlight why improving the provision of allergy services would deliver a such positive impact for so many millions. The rise in allergies has made it clear that these issues are #TooBigToIgnore and current services are falling short in meeting the needs of the affected individuals. Did you watch the first #GeneralElection debate?   We were disappointed to hear about the increase in the waiting list numbers, from 7.2 million to 7.5 million. This significant rise directly affects many in the allergic community, who are already facing unsafe waiting times. With five million individuals currently requiring specialist allergy care, this upturn is simply #TooBigToIgnore.     We need the next government to improve healthcare solutions for the UK population, especially those facing health inequalities such as allergies. Allergy UK has an evidence-based solution that we believe can significantly reduce waiting times for allergy care.    Our call to introduce specialist allergy nurses and dietitians to services offered by GPs provides practical solutions for millions of adults and children with allergies. By bringing allergy services into local communities, our trial was shown to alleviate the need for secondary referrals and long waiting times.     Referrals to specialist consultants were reduced to only 5% and patients were seen more quickly – usually within 4-8 weeks compared to the 6-18 month wait time that is often the case when referred to a hospital-based consultant.      This is a win win for patients and our healthcare system. Write to your local candidates, calling on them to prioritise allergy and improving an inadequate healthcare system to win your vote in the election.   #TooBigToIgnore #ItsTimeToTakeAllergySeriously #Election #Allergy #Allergies #AllergyAwareness #HealthInequality #PublicHealth #NHS #HealthcareSystem #SpecialistNurse #Dietitian #HealthcareAccess #HealthcareServices

With the prevalence of allergies on the rise in the UK, accessible and effective treatments such as immunotherapy need to become more available. Immunotherapy has been shown to reduce the severity of hay fever or rhinitis symptoms and in the long term, reduce the need for medication. Allergies have become #TooBigToIgnore, and our Election Manifesto calls for this pressing crisis to be addressed by improving the provision of allergy services in the UK, starting with 📣Specialist allergy services at GP level so that capacity for specialist referrals can be freed up to support more complex allergy management solutions, such as immunotherapy 📣A national database on allergies so the health care services has an accurate picture of how widespread allergies are and what services are therefore required to support patient needs 📣Free prescriptions for people who need long term and ongoing medication to manage their allergies on a day to day basis; such as those with hay fever and skin allergies Our Election Manifesto champions the rights of those affected by allergies so that we can build a society where every individual affected by allergic conditions finds their voice heard and their healthcare needs met. Join us in advocating for better allergy services and equitable access to treatments like immunotherapy by writing to your MP if they are due to be re-elected and highlighting it to local candidates. The louder we are, the harder it is to be ignored. Did you know that the government has commissioned a crucial consultation on the NHS Constitution this year? It’s live right NOW, inviting members of the public to input their views on shaping the NHS for the next 10 years. However, with a General Election now being called for the 4th of July, there is a real risk that the consultation will be sidelined and won't be given the attention it deserves. That's why Allergy UK is proud to join National Voices, the Richmond Group of Charities, and 70 patient charities in urging the Department of Health and Social Care to pause and extend the NHS Constitution consultation process. Millions of people are currently excluded from responding, and despite health ranking as the UK’s second most important issue, fewer than one in four people are aware of the NHS Constitution. With half of the consultation period overlapping the election, the current process is set up to fail. We're joining forces to call for the consultation to be paused and extended beyond the general election on July 5th. With the current NHS failing to meet the needs of the growing allergic population, everyone, especially those with allergies, deserves a voice in shaping the future of our NHS. A study from King's College London – the LEAP-Trio Study - has found that regularly feeding children peanuts from infancy to age five reduced the rate of peanut allergy in adolescence by 71%. These findings bring hope for the future; introducing peanuts early in a baby's diet could be the key to the long-term prevention of peanut allergies for future generations. Allergy UK welcomes these findings. Food allergies are on the rise and for far too long, the food allergic community along with Allergy UK, has yearned for better understanding and solutions. The results of the LEAP-trio study bring us closer to a future where food allergies and their impact on quality of life and mental health can be significantly reduced. Can you imagine a world where the fear of peanut allergies is a thing of the past? Do you have any questions? Feel apprehensive about introducing peanuts with a family history? Drop a 🥜 in the comments along with your questions if you’d like us to host a Q&A with a member of our clinical team over on Instagram to answer some of them. #TooBigToIgnore #ItsTimeToTakeAllergySeriously #Allergy #Allergies #Research #PeanutAllergy #LEAPStudy

Recently, Food Standard Agency have released some findings that are #TooBigToIgnore 📢 Findings from their Patterns and Prevalence of Adult Food Allergy (PAFA) report state that 6% of UK adults have a food allergy – that's 2.4 million adults alone. Swipe to uncover some more eye-opening findings. With the previous prevalence of food allergies in adults standing at 1-2%, this increase demands our attention and action. This is why Allergy UK is fighting until we are heard. Allergies have become a pressing health crisis in the UK that is #TooBigToIgnore. That's why we're standing firm in calling for the government and NHS to improve allergy services in the UK. Allergy UK has a solution we have trialled, which improves the care for people living with allergies. Because of the findings of this trial and the rise in food and other allergies we believe the first step in improving allergy is to introduce a dietitian and allergy specialist nurse as part of GP services within every health region in the UK. Join us in our fight. Share our Election Manifesto. Write to your MP.
