This Alcohol Awareness Week (1st - 7th July), led by Alcohol Change UK, we're revisiting one of the moving accounts from last year's Addiction Awareness Week themed feature film, 'Everybody Knows Somebody'. Trudi talks about her issues with alcohol, the shame she felt hiding her addiction but also, deep down, knowing that others could see it. Trudi’s incredible story is just one of many in our 17-minute feature film, and certainly one of many that hasn't yet been told. Remember, addiction can affect anyone - of any age, ethnicity or profession. With the support of drug and alcohol services, like The Forward Trust, recovery is possible. Let's keep raising awareness of addiction and move it from the shadows into the light - join our mailing list, share our content and lobby your local government to take addiction as seriously as any other mental health condition. Join our cause 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dSeh-P5 Watch the 17-minute feature, Everybody Knows Somebody 📽 https://lnkd.in/et9-A4dQ #AlcoholAwarenessWeek #AAW #Addiction #RecoveryIsPossible Thanks to our campaign partners The Forward Trust, Nacoa UK, Faces and Voices of Recovery UK, Visible Recovery, Kaleidoscope, Music Support, Phoenix Futures and Amy Winehouse Foundation

There's a serious drug crisis taking place right now in the UK - with the influx of #nitazenes, a dangerous synthetic opioid, causing a rising number of fatal overdoses every week. We're working with a number of partners and agencies around harm reduction and spreading the message about the escalating dangers in the UK illegal drug market. In this new blog, we explain more about the background of how and why nitazenes have become such a problem, what issues affect users from seeking help (often related to stigma) and what more can be done to ensure policymakers take the appropriate swift action to ensure we save more lives through care, attention and a compassionate society. We're really grateful to Claire from The Forward Trust recovery community 'Forward Connect' for writing a review and reflection piece about the amazing play, 'People, Places and Things', now showing at Trafalgar Theatres. As you know, Taking Action on Addiction was announced as a charity partner, and stories like Claire's really emphasise the private struggles many people face with alcohol addiction. This blog really explains how easy it is to end up sliding into excessive alcohol use, and we're so thrilled that Claire has been able to tell her story for the benefit of others. Read the blog, and also find out more about this amazing play below: https://lnkd.in/ehAmA4UP #TakingActionOnAddiction #Addiction #RecoveryIsPossible

🌟 Mental Health Awareness Week: ADHD & Addiction 🌟 At Taking Action on Addiction, we recognise addiction as a complex issue, especially for those with ADHD. ADHD impacts brain function and emotional regulation, often leading to a cycle of seeking dopamine through potentially addictive behaviours. Living with ADHD means heightened sensitivity and intense emotions, which can drive individuals towards substances for temporary relief. Understanding this complexity is crucial for compassionate and effective recovery support. Let's raise awareness and support those on their journey to wellness. 💙 You can read more via the link below - https://lnkd.in/epifQtcJ #MentalHealthAwareness #ADHD #AddictionRecovery #TakingActionOnAddiction
