We have been supporting people to experience nature and develop conservation and horticultural skills for 30 years. We do it for many reasons - generates a sense of community and belonging, creates therapeutic benefits, improves our natural spaces and helps save the planet. All pretty obvious really but is is also an 'act of resistance' against stigma - 'When we talk about RtN and the people that take part we’re conscious not to inadvertently play into and reinforce the redemption narrative. It’s well understood some of the stigma people who use substances face is based on moral judgments. There is an implicit expectation of expressions of regret, apology and actions aimed at ‘redeeming’ and ‘giving back’ to the community. We want to be absolutely clear that RtN is not this.'   read this brilliant article to find out why we think that

Phoenix’s Recovery Through Nature (RtN) programme brings people together to volunteer on a range of hands-on conservation and horticultural projects in natural spaces across the country. For many, the sense of community and belonging found on the programme stands in stark contrast to the othering experienced in wider society. In 2021 the Government launched a new 10-year drug strategy with an initial commitment of an additional £532m for drug and alcohol treatment and recovery services, whilst the funding promised has reached the sector and delivered some benefits, the impact of it is limited by current funding mechanisms and the lack of strategic leadership and oversight possible in the current structure. We're calling on the next government to make important changes to fix these issues. Read the full blog from us here: https://lnkd.in/eavrBQRy

We are looking to appoint new trustees to our Ophelia House Subsidiary Board. For too long women have had to fit into a treatment system that doesn’t work for them, we believe effective treatment must meet the specific gendered needs of women. That is why we developed Ophelia House a specialist trauma-responsive service exclusively for women. Along with a keen interest in specialist provision for women, we would welcome people with a range of lived and professional experience, including researchers, academics and people working in the field of trauma or criminal justice. We had an important delivery to Ophelia House on Friday, Sequoia trees! We are currently heavily involved in the One Tree One Life Project, which is about growing giant sequoia trees. The trees can live as long as 3000 years they are known to be the longest living thing on earth, they can pull around 1400 metric tonnes of CO2 out of the atmosphere. We have 70 and eventually these trees will be sent to their forever homes in Wales! 🌲 #Sustainability #onetreeonelife #sequoia #RTN #Recoverythroughnature
