I love this picture. Its poignant for me as it illustrates the nub of my job and what makes it so wonderful. This is me alongside Hugo Raymond and Jeremy England Lee on our Insurance bike ride, Raptor, in Switzerland last week. The poignant bit is that it is because I met these two about a decade ago, on a private bike ride, that the Raptor ride exists at all and that's because its all about networks. I met Hugo who brought me to Jez, who introduced me to the formidable Mark Allan and Matthew Wilson who back in 2019 agreed that an industry ride would work. Without these key and critical introductions to people who make things happen (Andrew Taylor and Lois Ireson too!) we would not be celebrating £1m+ raised over 4 rides. Anything is possible with passion and people.. combine them and magic happens in so many ways! Thank you Hugo for starting the snowball! Chapeaux! Right now we are looking for our next industry ride. Wish our riders luck as they get ready to set off for the Action Medical Research annual Raptör Ride - an incredible feat cycling ~400 kilometres in the Swiss Jura Mountains across 4 days. Verisk colleagues Reid Stanway, Simon Gutteridge, Paul Buckle, Dip CII, Sophie Adams, Henry Duruji and 丁毅YI DING are taking on the challenge to raise money for Action which supports research to develop breakthrough treatments, vaccinations and cures for children for over 70 years. The 4th Raptör Ride supporting the amazing Action Medical Research by riding with colleagues from the Insurance Market is complete. All 70 riders completed the hardest year ever, 368km 4,400m of climbing (equivalent to half the height of Everest in 4 days), a massive £290,000 raised (making the culminative amount raised £1.1m!!) and personally an achievement as my newish ACL did its job and allowed me to do it. Every year the event grows under the energy and vision of Sarah Stevenson and Lucy Holloway who each evening gave brilliant talks about the research the ride funds. And several of our market leaders including Ki CEO Mark Allan and Helen Rios (née Gemmell) added the personal accounts that gave us all extra motivation to keep on going. Finally the collaboration and camaraderie is what makes the event so reflective of the best of the London Market - everyone cheered everyone else - teams worked together to achieve a greater goal with lots of chat and laughter thrown in (as well as some heathly grumbling in the hard bits!). Extra thanks to Sam Kantorowich for an especially stunning route, all the ride leaders and support staff (and volunteers ) and my group Becky Marsh Helen Rios (née Gemmell) Katie Butler Brendan Roche (ACMA) Guy Rees Michel Krenzer and of course to Andrew Taylor for getting us all organised and spearheading our fundraising. Action Medical Research are so excited to welcome brand new ambassador Pfeiffer Georgi. Riding for Team dsm-firmenich PostNL, Pfeiffer is a three time British National Road Race Champion who took her first Women’s World Tour victory in 2023 at Brugge-De Panne and more recently took third in Paris-Roubaix Femmes.
