NEW DELHI: Nelly Korda, the current world number one and reigning champion, will lead the US women's golf team at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, as announced by USA Golf on Tuesday.
Korda, who boasts an impressive 14 victories on the LPGA Tour, previously secured the gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Joining Korda on the three-member team are Lilia Vu, ranked second in the world, and Rose Zhang, currently holding the ninth position.
Both Vu and Zhang will be participating in their first Olympic Games, adding fresh talent to the formidable US lineup.
"I'm honoured to represent the United States once again on the Olympic stage this summer in Paris," Reuters quoted Korda as saying in a USA Golf news release. "Winning the gold medal in Tokyo was a dream come true and an incredible highlight to my career."
Korda's exceptional performance in 2024 includes six LPGA Tour victories, featuring an impressive streak of five consecutive wins and her second major championship title.
Lilia Vu's accomplishments encompass five LPGA Tour wins, including two major titles. In 2023, she was recognized as the tour's player of the year. Rose Zhang, who triumphantly debuted on the LPGA Tour with a win in June 2023, secured her second professional victory just last month.
The Olympic women's golf tournament is set to take place from August 7 to 10 at Le Golf National, located on the outskirts of Paris. The event will feature a field of 60 players who will compete in a 72-hole, stroke-play format.
