NEW DELHI: TMC's Abu Taher Khan won the Murshidabad Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 164215 votes.
Situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, Murshidabad is one of West Bengal's 42 parliamentary seats, categorized under the General category. The constituency includes parts of Murshidabad district and Nadia district, comprising seven legislative assembly segments and boasting a literacy rate of 58.56 per cent.

The constituency went to polls in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 7, 2024, with a voter turnout of 81.52 per cent.
The major candidates this year are Gauri Shankar Ghosh from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Abu Taher Khan from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), and Md. Salim from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)).

In the 2019 elections, AITC candidate Abu Taher Khan won with 6,04,346 votes, followed by S/o - Late Abdus Sattar of the Indian National Congress (INC) with 3,77,929 votes. The voter turnout in 2019 was 84.33 per cent.

In the 2014 elections, Badaruddoza Khan from the CPI(M) won the seat with 4,26,947 votes, followed by Abdul Mannan Hossain from the INC with 4,08,494 votes.
According to the 2011 Census, in the Murshidabad parliamentary constituency, Scheduled Caste (SC) voters represent around 10.2 per cent, Scheduled Tribe (ST) voters approximately 1.3 per cent, and Muslim voters make up a significant 68.5 per cent of the electorate. The rural population constitutes the majority with 93.6 per cent of the electorate, while urban voters account for 6.4 per cent. As of the 2019 Parliament Election, the total number of voters reached 1,722,752, spread across 1,907 polling booths.
