Gopalganj (SC) election results 2024 live updates: JD(U)'s Alok Kumar Suman emerges winner

NEW DELHI: Dr. Alok Kumar Suman, the candidate from Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), has emerged victorious in the Gopalganj constituency, winning 511,866 votes. His impressive victory margin is 127,180 votes, indicating a significant endorsement from the people.
The constituency went to the polls in Phase 6 on May 25. Located in Bihar, Gopalganj constitutes one of the 40 parliamentary seats in the state, falling under the Scheduled Caste category and boasting a literacy rate of 53.98%.

In the 2019 general elections, Alok Kumar Suman of the Janata Dal (United) emerged victorious with 562,424 votes, constituting 55.4% of the votes.The runner-up was Surendra Ram of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, securing 278,606 votes, accounting for 27.4% of the votes.
In the 2014 general elections, Janak Ram, of the Bharatiya Janata Party, secured victory with 478,758 votes, capturing 54.1% of the votes. Jyoti Bharti of the Indian National Congress was the runner-up with 191,832 votes, securing 21.7% of the votes.

According to the 2011 Census, around 12.5% of the voters belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, and around 2.4% belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. Muslim voters comprise around 16.2% of the electorate, as per the analysis of the voter list.
According to the 2011 Census, the rural population dominates the voter list, constituting around 93.7% of the electorate, in contrast to urban voters, who make up around 6.3%. During the 2019 parliamentary election, Gopalganj witnessed a voter turnout of 54.8%.
